2024/25 David Moyes

Dyche is haunting you from the grave. You'll never be free from your Dyche associated anguish

Moyes has quite literally been taking his advice on team selection so sadly he’s still actually quite relevant at the minute.

Every trace of the idiot needs scrubbing from this club, that includes every single player he “trusted”.

In other words, we need a whole need squad, like everyone has been saying.

But the passing was sloppier and the defence looked creaky. It was the same but different. Mykolenko had his best game for a while, Young had his worst. I didn't see anything last night that was significantly different to what I've seen before, and I don't expect to until we sign some more quality, because these players will still be crap whoever the manager is.
We created 2 clear cut chances - that's a clear difference on the previous 2 league games where we barely had a shot.

We need them asap.

Our problem is we are mostly absolutely clueless, I put part of it on bad coaching in the last 2 years, but also on the players, on what to do when we claim the ball, we had a few very promising ball wins last night in their half, Villa didn't look very confident playing out of the back, we did atrocious to use that.

On the other hand, we gave away so many cheap balls, and basically all of their chances came from easy mistakes in the build up.

If Moyes has really been taking advice from Dyche then that explains the continued freezing out of Patterson anyway. Don’t think there’s anyone in football I’d rather take advice from less than that toxic bully.

Yes, this can be the new excuse for why he doesn't start.

I was going to say Patterson needs to redo and complete the Ninja Warrior final obstacle course before he can be picked to start for a Moyes team.

Not the crappy UK one but the Japanese one. He needs to be challenged.

Or maybe just start off by dropping Young, Doucoure, Harrison and DCL?!?
Mike believing he knows what Everton needs better than two managers with loads of PL experience gives this energy:

Agree

I don't think there is any doubt whatsoever that both things are true. We were definitely better than the Forest and Bournemouth games, but no we still weren't good enough and the lack of quality was extremely concerning.

It's hard to blame a manager for a player failing to hit the target with a golden chance from 7 or 8 yards. That's just not good enough for top flight football.

Theres also being brave on the ball.

The last 10 mins of last night you saw a lot of players not moving into space and wanting the ball. Nothing to do with tactics but down to the player hiding.

Also for Myko doing "better" last night. Against Forest he made 10 crossed and ballooned about 7 of them.

I mean obviously if we want to reduce it to such a tiny sample size and criteria then yeah we 'created' (very loosely) a couple of chances which we maybe didn't do in the last couple of games but on a broader level it was no different. We've had chances in home games before in this run but not taken them just like we didn't last night, I don't see what the significant difference was at all but hey we all like to have a crutch.

But it may be partly down to the fact we played so much without the ball under the previous management. We clearly were not coached how to use the ball properly or even basic patterns to move up the field.

Yes the players lack quality. But they are not so bad they can't do the very basics of moving the ball forward. It was evident all season that the team are not properly coached when in possession. That takes time to fix.

Yes and no - Dyche tactics don't expect anyone to move into any positions or play the ball ahead of anyone, just sit static, which they mostly still did.

Branthwaite and Gana had several great chances to play the ball ahead of Myko for a fast break, instead they aim it at the man, as do most players for no reason. Same with Harrison and Young several times. I don't mean Hollywood passes or something, just don't stop the player's run/movement every single time like.

I fully expect this to change soon, Moyes was clearly unhappy with it too, you need to move the ball better.
