2024/25 David Moyes

No I agree with that and it's not a case of saying we were any worse than usual, just that i'm not sure we were any better. It followed a very similar pattern to many other home games this year, we battled and huffed and puffed and got ourselves a couple of opportunities by slinging in crosses but ultimately weren't good enough to get a result. We've had loads of games like that this year and pretending we haven't is just bizarre revisionism. Again, this is in no way a criticism of Moyes, I just don't see the point in pretending there was loads to be positive about last night because I don't think there was.
Only positives for me were that we pressed a bit higher at times, Mykolenko was seemingly told it was ok to cross the half way line especially after half time and Moyes actually changed formation during a game and to three at the back which I had hoped he would start with and will now use going forwards as it would bring Ndaiye into a central position where he can influence the game.

DCL is being hammered but I think people don't take into account the thankless task he did for Dyche over 18 months of running himself into the ground without any support in the final third. It has drained him in every sense including his enjoyment of playing football. Yes of course he should score the big chance at the end and even the chance that was cleared off the line in the first half. Maybe I'm delusional but I believe if he can score a goal then he can go on a bit of a run with some confidence. The whole team lacked confidence. If we can beat Tottenham who will be missing their centre backs with a dodgy keeper from set pieces then I think that would really build some much needed confidence going forwards.

Individual errors in attack and defence is my point though. Structurally I thought we were marginally better than recent weeks. Players were put in position to effect the game positively and just weren't good enough. We were set up well enough to get a result and players let us down.

Been the case this season. Last gaffer just gave up with it.

….hopefully last night wasn’t the extent of our ‘new manager bounce’
Well the appointment of Moyes felt like takeover was a bit meet the new owners same as the old , I really hope the manager situation isn’t similar .

The danger of a Moyes appointment is we’re now going into spurs knowing a defeat puts to bed any slight fan ‘excitement ‘ over the appointment in double quick time .

I can get that, I just think the same can be said about plenty of other games this season to be honest so I don't really see much difference. We undoubtedly could have won against Chelsea, Brentford, Newcastle etc if the players had been good enough to take advantage of the situations they were in, but they weren't so we didn't. That's not to say Dyche was doing a good job or Moyes did a bad one last night, it's to say that I don't think the quality of the players is good enough and we will see the same issues for as long as we're relying on what we have at the moment.

The players are not good enough. This season was always going to be a struggle.

It's about completing the task isn't it. You can put all the leg work in, but if you don't deliver you don't get anything.

We've survived generally on just having enough quality vs 3 other teams. But the bar is low.

We should be okay still. We've not had a purple period of form yet. Moyes will turn things that were stale around.

But it's still not going to be pretty. Unless we reinforce in Jan.

On a positive note Moyes has only worked with them for only a couple of training sessions.
He has seen them play and yesterday after the game said in his interview he knows exactly were we need quality additions.

So now it's a case of the sooner the better.

He will see us right for sure
