Happy he is going.

The indication of the job he was doing was this season in a nutshell. In an injury crisis you need to be able to call up players from the under 23s to plug holes. The fact we never had any to do that created part of the problem.

I look forward to the reserves having a philosophy going forward with the new man. That will make a huge difference , knowing we can call upon a reserve player and they know how to play for the first team, giving them a chance go stake a claim.

I think perhaps the biggest positive about Unsworth was also the biggest negative

He treated the u23 League like it mattered and went all out to win it

I think he maybe thought it would help give the lads a winning mentality (whilst also allowing him to look good in the process) but he lost sight of what his main task was, which was getting lads ready for the first team

It's not like you're going to have a street parade over winning the u23 Premier League either is it? Especially with a fan base that hates young players as much as ours does

He hasn't produced the next Messi, this has apparently angered some of our fans and because he was an ex player, it seen as a job for the boys. Both are bizarre
I can see you support him and that is fine by me .Do you honestly think we have had enough come through ? Do you think he has quit for the reason stated with 2 months of the season left ? A great Evertonian yes but from two league winning sides who has progressed to the first team or is that not his job ?
Remember the motto - Nil satis nisi optimum - I know the rest of the club is finding it hard to live up to that .Has he left under his own steam if not the clear out might be what we need .

How does the fan base hate young players ? Bad young players yes but not all .

….if there’s a lack of players coming through, I doubt it’s down to what happens after they get their first professional contracts. When was the last time we got to the final or latter stages of the FA Youth Cup (U18 level)? I think it was probably Rooney’s team that lost to Villa.

That Villa team had a number of future top flight players, as did the West Ham team that beat us some time earlier. We won it with the likes of Osman, Hibbert, Cadamarteri etc. I even watched Jimmy Husband & John Hurst winning it in 1965.

The point I’m making is the FA Youth Cup has always been a strong indicator of talent, the fact we haven’t had a decent run suggests we have more of a recruitment than coaching issue. Even then, recruitment is so much more difficult because the talent pool is so much smaller. Kids don’t play from dawn till dusk like we did in the 60s and 70s.

The strategy of bringing in promising youngsters is reaping some reward; Stones, DCL, Holgate, Lookman, Nkounkou. Indeed, it was Unsworth who went to the Board and suggested they find monies to buy DCL.

Root and branch change might make a difference. if Unsworth is the start of that then fair enough but I very much doubt his departure alone will make much difference.
I too played morning til night in the entry so I know what you are saying but to me it seems very simple ,we have a new DoF and he has come from the States where everything is numbers and graphs ,bearing that in mind the production line has failed and it may just be that he has acted now instead of doing what we normally do and subscribe to the old boys club .
Defending him with the DCL signing is a bit stretching the facts ,Walsh discovered Vardy but came here and signed a lot of rubbish .
Any way I wish him well and there he goes .

We have though? Dobbin, onyango, branthwaite and simms have come in at times to plug holes. Welch and price have had run outs too. How many are we realistically expecting?

Again, I’m not defending unsworth how because I think he’s great, just because some of the criticisms are unfair and some (like this one) are simply untrue.

It’s a shame to see the negative comments that big Dunc and Unsy seem to get from sections of the fan base.
- I don’t have an opinion on their current job performance because I don’t work at finch farm. I wonder how many are actually qualified to comment.

He seemed to have a very good approach to coaching/mentoring young players, keeping them grounded and humble. Hope he goes on to prove himself and have a good career as a manager. In an age where fans get excited over a manager who "gets the club" it'd be nice to have a former player who ticks that box already, but goes away and earns a crack at the Everton managers job on merit and not association.
