Not a clue, but I can't ever imagine a team coming out of our academy over the past 5 or 6 years and giving a rival Premier league team managed by a CL winning manager a bloody nose.

It was a remarkable advert for a functioning academy system and a set way of playing at all age groups.
Their starting team had 4 academy players in it (one of whom had been brought in aged 18), I would imagine we've fairly often put starting elevens out in the PL with those sort of numbers. It was an embarrassing loss but the way it's gone down as their under 12s beating our best team is a little bit over the top.

There doesn't need to be anything said. It's all just a bit 'luvvy' for me. I've tried not to believe the conspiracy of jobs for the boys and how soft we appear to be but each of them just appear a bit cringey. You would think Unsworth had done a remarkable job. I've nothing personal against Unsworth, I just dont think he's done very well in the job regardless of whether he is sound person or not.

"A great coach" - What evidence of this is there? I've watched the u23's plenty and there never seems to be any set style of how we play or players further pushing on.
"A great evertonian" - I mean, fine he may be, but has zero relevance to whether someone is good at their job or service to a company.
"And a winner" - Won one EPL 2 title was it? Produced very little for the senior level.

If he has had big input on Gordon, then fair play to him as i really rate Gordon and hope he finds that consitency to make him top level. Other than that though, the gap from U23's to Seniors is massive. His job is to keep that job as small as possible.

Perhaps had this been from somebody else it wouldn't irritate me as much.. so perhaps im wrong in finding it cringey, but Kenwright grates me on and is not a positive for this club and it feels like his usual stunt and the whole 'Evertonian' is annoying. It has no relevance as to how someone performs in their job, or whether they are right for the job.
Honestly I think you are thinking WAY too much about it!

It's just words, standard stuff when someone would leave a company after a decent amount of time. It doesn't need breaking down or anything.

I’m convinced it’s generational. Barca had a brilliant few all together with Messi Iniesta Xavi, then absolutely nothing until Pedri. That’s one of the best academies in the world.

We had a decent flutter with Osman Hibbert Rooney Anichebe Vaughan then a gap to Rodwell Barkley, then a gap to Gordon. I’m sure coaching plays a part in it but I don’t buy into the myth we’d have a conveyor belt of talent if Unsworth left, the numbers seem about average.

Even United had Greenwood and Rashford and that’s been it recently. City with Foden. Chelsea didn’t have a decent kid since Terry really until Mount and James came though. It’s just cycles.
Don't forget the glory days of Frances Jeffers and...um...Danny Cadematari, eh?

Possibly not, I did state that it's probably more Kenwrght grating on me than anything.

One thing we need to get a grip on is stop keeping players on the books until they're 25 so that they can become a poor part of the first team squad i.e. like Kenny who should have been either let go or shifted years ago.
Well he could have gone to Burnley in January 2021 when they offered £8 or £9M for him but Everton wanted more so he went to Celtic on loan instead and if Jonjoe doesn’t get a new contract in the summer he will get a good signing on fee and a new deal off another club.

My problem was more persisting with older players who aren't gonna be good enough for the first team. Your Garbutts and McAleny's of the world. There's only 11 places in the first team and player development is more important than winning youth trophies.

And, yeah I agree it was a bit of a lazy blanket statement.
I think they were stuck with Garbutt to be honest because he was given a long contract at £30,000 per week after showing potential after a few games with the first team, he went on loan a few times but always came back to full fill his contract with the Blues a very loyal lad, maybe the £1.5M a year had something to do with that.

So do we know when he’s leaving ? The u23s have a “ must win” relegation battle against Chelsea on Friday night , presumably he’s staying until the end of the season, 3 games for the u23s.
