"Unsworth was appointed Everton’s Director of Academy in September, allowing the Under-23s boss to bring all of the teams below the senior men’s squad into one management structure, providing a smoother pathway through the Academy and into the First Team."

Yeah he was doing the two roles
Absolutely mental. How very Everton.

The second role is clearly under the umbrella of what a DoF should be allowed to control.

I don't care if the academy staff we employ are Reds, Blues, Cockneys, Scots.... Even Welshies, so long as they're qualified and bring the right qualities to the academy.

However you cut it, our academy has been pitiful for several years. It's not about winning PL2 titles, it's about producing first team ready players OR generating a solid revenue stream.

We have had Davies and lately Gordon in the past 6/7 years who have played more than a handful of games. We have made virtually no money to speak of by selling 24yr olds for undisclosed fees.

If Thelwell can get the academy functioning properly it will hopefully pay off 3-5 years down the line when the current U14 intake are processed through each stage with a cohesive message.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Shame, as he is a proper blue and totally cares about the club.

I don't see anything of teams under the first team though, so trust what you guys in here say about the need for change

Exactly this and we have been awful at it.
