De Zerbi Leaves Brighton

brighton remind me a bit of southampton

southampton did really well in the prem when they had mane, tadic, lallana, van dijk, luke shaw, alderweireld, schneiderlin, ward prowse etc

they got asset stripped over the years, failed to replace them adequately and then eventually got relegated

True

But they’re also in the playoffs with a good chance of coming back

It’d be the same with Brighton

It just seems odd to us because we’ve not seen a relegation for 70 years, but that cycle is normal for most other clubs, even well run ones

Brighton are just a much smaller club than us. If we were ran as well as Brighton we’d probably be regularly near the top 4

I think there’d definitely be a ceiling on us if we were run like Brighton, which is probably why some don’t like it because they feel like we should be like the team of 1984-87 again and don’t like the idea of us being a stable middle of the table club with a ceiling on what we can achieve

What they seem to ignore is that, as you say, we are a bigger club than Brighton with a nice new stadium on the horizon, so the option to kick on would be stronger for us than them

Using the Brighton model wouldn’t lead to much excitement in the short term, but in the long term it could be a launching pad to better things

Feel Brighton have lost there way somewhat, similar to how most clubs that receive the 'headpat' from the media and top 6 clubs do!

You look at the change in the age range of there players they have been recruiting.

Mac Allister, Mitoma, Cucurella, Estupinan, Mwepu, Trossard, Bissouma all bought around the age of 23-25 (only real exception being Caicedo).

Now they are looking to bring in your 18-19 year old's and as it seems, throw them in pretty early, but who are going to be the main players while these younger players get up to scratch?
Evan Ferguson has shown this year that, despite being a talent, he is still very young and cant be the main man for Brighton....just yet!

You have one or 2 like Dunk etc that will be there forever, but those players they expect the 'magic' from.....and expect to move on for huge profit are drying up!
Gilmour isnt Mac Allister, Adingra isnt Trossard, Baleba isnt Bissouma etc etc.

Happened to Southampton, happened to Leicester, this is the downward spiral of Brighton!
I'd imagine Crystal Palace will be the next club everyone wants to be 'ran like'
Agree with everything here besides the point on Adingra - I reckon he could fetch a healthy profit.

Brighton seeming to play a dangerous game, theyve done well up until this point but soon enough they start believing they have it figured out and can just flip to the next guy at any moment. Until it goes like Southampton.

Re McKenna.

Footballs fickle. How many fans on here tarnish managers because they have been relegated without any thought of the team they were managing?
I think you make your moves upwards when you stock is high.
No one thinks the Luton manager is some maestro now, despite having a good go and getting Luton in the premier league for the first time in a generation.

McKenna I doubt has much money behind him, no football career of note. He needs to get some cash in quickly before it disapears .

Completely agree. Rob Edwards did a good job this season I thought but he'll be remembered by many as the manager who got Luton relegated
