Transfer Rumour Dele Alli

Could be a great signing or a total waste, he's the kind of player that if we signed him on loan he'd probably smash it so that he'd end up costing us too much to sign permanently, whereas were we to sign him on a permanent deal he'd most likely be useless and end up a drain on the clubs resources.

We don't need to gamble.

He's defo more of an attacking no.10 than a playmaker; my issue is that we already seem to have been found out in a system where we play James out wide. Assuming we persist with the current system with James central instead of Sig, where does Dele go? If he plays in James's place he gets no service and if we shunt James back out wide we end up getting overrun out wide again, we don't have the ball and therefore Dele gets no service.

I get why people get excited over us taking a player who has shown flashes of brilliance, that is having a rough patch - that transfer strategy has served us very well at times in the past - but personally I think it'd be a(nother) waste of money that wouldn't actually serve to improve our squad all that much.
I agree. But he has played well for Spurs coming in from the left too. If he came I think he'd be a rotation option with James and Richi. I suppose with James being quite injury prone he'd get a fair few games.

It may be just the media hype which gets me down but whenever the RS play with several youngsters they are invariable described in glowing terms, future stars in the making etc. Maybe the development part of EFC does not produce such talent, so we are left hoping for signings. Thinking about it, we appear to have no wannabees in the shape of strikers, midfielders or fullbacks bursting to get in the team. If the likes of Davies is the peak, then the development team has failed.

It’s not even his ability that would be the issue, it’s all the ‘added’ bonus costs. England international, premier league rival, his overall reputation, being (rightly or wrongly) named the 55th best player in the world, Spurs being Spurs. I can easily see them asking 60/70mil+ if his contract situation is strong
They would be lucky to get 40 especially with covid. And teams struggling financially.

It’s frustrating, that we haven’t brought through more youngsters, especially when we have had some really good teams over the last 10yrs at youth level.

But any youngsters who plays a game for one
Of the sky 6, is always overhyped. And even more So when it’s Liverpool or Utd. I remember barkley coming through and they had a kid called Jordon rossiter. Not sure where he is now. Then Ben woodburn, played probably 2 games in cup games and got a wales cap, last I seen he was on loan at Oxford, look at Brewster, he may end up a superstar
But Liverpool got 25mil because of what he did in the championship with Swansea, which was good but nothing special

It’s always been the same at the clubs winning the trophies, so much easier to bring a kid into the team, when surrounded by top class talent.

Fergie did it for years, played them in the league cup or European dead rubbers and then sold them for big money, most wouid be playing lower level football with in 2 years.

Alli is a very good player but as a young English international he will cost a fortune.
I just cannot see us paying the kind of money he would cost unless Spurs are in more financial trouble than any of us imagine.

That's why I think it was rumoured that Levy was looking for him to go out an 18 month loan deal because he still see's Alli as a future asset. He's still only 24, his contract is up in 2024 so even after an 18 month contract he would still have plenty left on his Spurs contract. If Alli does the bizz at another club Levy can ask for big bucks, or Spurs get a quality player back with a better attitude etc.

The interesting bit would be how much Levy would ask for an 18 month loan deal from another club and if he would expect said club to pay all of Alli's £100k a week.

A very good player, still only 24. I think he would be an excellent signing for the right price, perfect as the 10 behind Calvert Lewin.

When you have a midfield player, able to score a goal every 3 games for three seasons running. That's special. That is a player you build a team around.

He has had a difficult 18 months with injuries and Mourinho doesn't really play a system that suits him and has no interest in accommodating him.

If he had Allan and another holding player behind him, maybe even Doucoure, this team would carry a much greater threat.

If he is available, he is exactly the type of player Everton should target. A player who has lost their way but has shown they can play well at the highest level.
Except, you know, we don't play with 10 behind Calvert Lewin and, if we did, we already have a world class player who would slot in there.
