2022/23 Dele Alli

Doubt the lad is really bothered about being disliked and/or booed whether it's by Spurs fans, us or some Turks. He's made more money already than he or his immediate family will ever need, he's won at life really. Just a shame he's never wanted to push on for more because he looked capable of big things. Always a shame when a talented player goes this way but not everyone has the same motivations or goals in life, and it's hard to tell them that they're wrong when you don't know their full story.

We won't ever pay Spurs any of that instalment money, he'll come back at the end of the season and be parmed off to Saudi Arabia or MLS.

I agree, he does not care. Has made a packet of money and for doing what ?

Sad like. Had a really tough upbringing, no idea if that has affected him or contributed to where he's currently at both as a player and mentally.

What a player he was at Spurs those first two or three seasons.
Millions of kids have a 'tough upbringing', I doubt it's a factor in a mid-20s multi-millionaire pro footballer not being as interested in the game/job as he was 5 or 6 years ago. He was hungry at MK Dons, desperate to "make it" to the top, which he did for a bit at Spurs, now his pockets are full and he's been on easy street for years. If the likes of Ravel Morrison can somehow have a career over 10+ years, there will always be people willing to take a chance on Dele, and who says no thanks to a gig worth a few more million when you don't even have to make much effort.

If some said now that Bellingham is going to have a bad patch for the next couple of seasons but we can loan him, risk free, in two years with an option to buy… everyone here is saying it’s worth the risk.
That’s the situation we were in dele was a top level international and champions league player. It turned on its head quickly but we thought he might refund his form here and prove a bargain.
Was worth the punt, but like most punts it never came off

I'm not one who gets hung up on body language, but players who are subbed off within the first half hour of a game/appearance generally look either incredulous or furious when it happens, whereas Alli just seemed to accept it as if it was perfectly normal. Even without all the other stuff, that would lead to me believe that he's not really fussed about playing.

Van der Meyde, Drenthe, Dele Ali. You‘d hope any multi-million turnover business would employ professionals who could do full background checks on individuals before throwing millions on them. It was common knowledge on those three.

I hear we’re scouting this fella…

I don't remember there being anywhere near the hype to be honest. He was rated for sure but not like the media fest over Bellingham.
He was one of the most hyped players of his England generation. He was seems as slippys successor, banging in goals at all levels. He was touted as a 100m player.

We paid the equivalent of a loan fee. Increasing if he was a success
Yes? I'm not disputing that, but that isn't what you said. Like I said, I wouldn't put the deal down as one of the disastrous ones we've had in recent years, and I can see why they did it, but by the same token I wouldn't necessarily say it was worth it or risk free. The biggest risk was that he'd do kind of OK for a few months and trigger a £20m payment or whatever before reverting to type, so it's good that we managed to avoid that.
