2022/23 Dele Alli

Good work by Tottenham in keeping his misgivings low key as possible, maybe we as club could learn a thing or two...
Don't have problem with his attitude maybe he achieved the personal wealth he needs and that is enough, good for him, I can sympathize with that but he really needs to get hold of himself and stop kidding fans now and get out of big leagues where a decent standard of professional attitude is required. I don't see he has learnt a lesson that affords him another appearance for us as same worries are being spoken.

While we thought the deal we did with spurs was an absolute steal....there was clearly a reason why they'd let him go in one of the most convoluted deals in league history.

Levy did us. Not the first or last club he's done that to

There was the Spurs Amazon documentary which felt like half of it was Mourinho having digs at Dele Alli being lazy.

At the time I felt it was a bit iffy/bullying like and maybe Mourinho should adjust to different personality types and Alli didn't have the brain to react accordingly to Mourinho.

We're all second guessing, but the lad was genuinely one of the most exciting talents in world football for a period. He's still 26. Mad.

At the time I thought maybe Mourinho had absolutely crippled the lads confidence. It can happen.

And to be fair, he never really got a chance on the field for us. How many starts did he get? Was it 1 or 2? In an absolute head case Everton team.

There’s something seriously not right with him and whatever it is he has my sympathy and wish that it improves.
Maybe, but maybe he just cba?
Maybe he’s simply had enough of football after 10 years or whatever and has simply earned enough money to not have to be motivated to do something he’s not keen on.

If there was something seriously wrong with him, I’d be very surprised if the club weren’t there supporting him as they might a potentially £40m asset.

Looks to me more like he’s simply lost the motivation to do what’s required of a professional elite athlete. Has the money to focus / prioritise things he does enjoy over his job.
Wouldn’t be the first and won’t be the last.

When I say something seriously wrong with him, I’m not necessarily thinking of anything in particular and would include “just losing motivation” as something gone seriously wrong for him.

I would hope whatever it is improves for him because if it doesn’t, his career is on a downward spiral. That said, as an Everton fan, I’m annoyed we did the deal and that people paid millions of pounds a year are sanctioning these deals. We’re now stuck with him sucking up wages for nothing in return.

Yeah. I was never against it and did believe that he'd need a change of scenery and someone to put an arm round him. But I think he's well and truly gone.

As for game time...it's like I said before, I guess he never worked hard in training (Jose said he was lazy in the doc), fitness, so wasn't going to automatically get starts especially when we couldn't carry players at the point of the season.

Seems the exact same has happened in Turkey.

Can't recall anyone in football with such a fall from grace though?

I mean, at that level - natural talent alone usually gets you so far.

It's also a lot longer than 10 years to be fair, to get to his level at 26, more like 20+.

Can only assume some sort of poor mental health issue. Maybe the pressure of playing a top level just got to him.

Answering the above question - maybe it's surprising more players don't decline rapidly

Dele was like James. Both are luxury players who need a team around them so they can float around and do their bit without needing to do the hard graft that other players can. It is no coincidence that the best periods of Dele and his form were playing with people like Dembele/Kane etc. and a team that was set up to battle hard and have players that will run and keep the ball allowing him to pop up in the spaces they've created to assist and score because technicially he is/was magnificent. It's not possible to have players now that float through games. You need everyone on the pitch playing as part of the system and putting in that hard graft to make modern day football systems work which is why Brighton/Brentford/Newcastle/City/Liverpool etc. have all been successful recently. Each player puts in as much as the next.

Something happened between him and Lampard in my opinion, he went from being one we will work with and give opportunities to next year, to being on a plane to Turkey out of nowhere.
Not sure I buy this tbh. There's clearly a reason why Lampard didn't play him much, just like Conte before him, Nuno before him, and Jose before him.
