Not even close. Not paid a penny to Spurs, got him loaned out this season. His wages will be a drain if we can’t get rid next season but it’s a drop in the ocean compared to what we’ve thrown at rubbish players in fees and wages down the years.

It might not have worked out, and that’s the fault of the player, but it was a calculated risk with minimal downside and he played a major part in the most significant 45 minutes in the club’s recent history.

No chance, I think we are very happy with Besiktas keeping him for the season, and the fact they are desperate to get rid tells you where he is as a player. We'd have to trigger the first 10m payment to Spurs as well as take back on his wages so it would be costly and we're better off exploring other options.
