I don't think he was ever as talented as the hysteria around him suggested. Then I think there was a likely drop off in effort from him which exposed the fact he wasn't as good as a lot of people thought.

He was never a fantastic dribbler or passer of the ball. His best attributes were being in the right place for a goal and making the ball stick up top. To be good at those things you really need drive and determination in training and on the pitch. No coincidence that his game collapsed if there is a lack of motivation. He didn't have enough to fall back on if he wasn't firing on all cylinders.

I disagree to be honest mate, his peak might not have lasted a long time, but he was very, very good.

 

This could just be press conference flannel but it does sound like Dyche wants to give him a chance and at least put him through a pre-season, and I guess a Dyche pre-season would pretty much kill or cure him. Might as well try when the alternative is paying up his contract.
