2023/24 Dele

I'm fairly sure he had surgery after the Turkish season finished, so last Summer in London.
The club then reported a setback and now he's 'back on the grass'.
Seems pretty standard stuff to me.
The contract is a mess but that's not his fault.
He's had issues with sleeping pill addiction, that is his fault and to his credit, he seems to be working his way through it.
I'm not sure where the hostility toward him comes from.
In fact hostility to any player with physical or mental issues bothers me.
It's not like he's morgan Schneiderlin wandering around collecting a fortune.

Unless you think he's faking injury (after surgery) or something?

….i have no idea about injury but it wouldn’t surprise me if it suits all parties that he’s injured.

….its very sad but footballers aren’t exempt from suffering the same problems as other occupations.
One other thing to note is that the club would look like absolute arseholes if we terminated his contract because of mental health issues.

I genuinely think that Dyche would turn his career around once fit, maybe not to the Dele of old but into a really good player for us. It's not something I think needs too much speculation as it's his private life but based on the public info he has spoken about I think it's fair to say he's going to have a rough time for a while longer, and perhaps footy may no longer be for him.

in fairness, the club have said that they're looking to re enter talks with Tottenham about his contract.
It doesn't seem to be a secret that his contract is an issue re. playing time.
I'm not sure there's a need to BS about his injury too. Especially given that he was recovering from surgery.
The club lose no face by coming out and saying they cant afford to trigger the next phase of the Dele deal.

….there was something on social media I read on here suggesting Spurs were keen on re-negotiating the terms but it’s Everton who aren’t interested. I don’t think any of us know whats going on but we’ll soon be in the 2nd half of the season and from what I’ve seen, the player isn’t even training.

i’d be amazed if he’s ever seen again on the pitch in an Everton shirt.

To be fair, it's simply been reported that Everton are in talks about that.

Who knows what's actually the case though

Well he is back on the grass and Dyche has said he should be back with the squad this week and looking to be available early Jan.

If there is another set back then I get it looks suspicious but he only came back from Turkey due to a hip injury that subsequently needed surgery and then had a set back 3 months ago.

Nothing to suggest his conduct has been poor like people are making out.

Didn't the chairman / manager of the Turkish club accuse him of being unprofessional? Him going AWOL rings a bell.

Everton signed him as a chance for him to kick-start his career - it didn't happen.
Everton loaned him out as a chance to kick start his career. It didn't happen.
I'm not sure why people think it'll be any different this time

Read a report on that and it was saying they wanted £8m but for less appearances, so probably wanted it now and it would free him up for his next 7 and the subsequent 20 which would effectively be the end of his contract (think that was the next payment gate - 20+20+20+20 for the full £40m to be achieved)

There is absolutely no comparison between Dele's situation and Dom's

None
The comparison is the certainty that posters are writing them off
I’ve seen people say Dom, Seamus, Mina etc. will all never kick a ball again with such certainty yet all three of those came back for crunch games when we really them and all performed fantastically at times when we were deep in relegation battles

You might be right, Dele might never play for us again, but I don’t see why Dyche keeps mentioning him, sometimes unprompted, and seems excited to have him integrated back into first team training if he’s never going to play.

From everything I can see, both parties want Dele to play games. Whether that happens will depend on if he can be Dyche fit like he was at his peak in Spurs and press like crazy because we know there’s no way Dyche drops one of our attackers for anything but 100% effort on the pitch

Who knows what's actually the case though
the usually cagey Dyche said this earlier in the season.

‘He is not ready yet, when his fit and well I am sure Kev will go to Tottenham and say “Right, how can we make this work for everyone”,’ said Dyche.

He may never play for Everton again and thats fine.
All I'm saying is that I dont think it's down to a poor attitude on his part and we might be missing a trick if we cant sort something out.
