2023/24 Dele

Surely if the original deal ends with him as a free agent and we re-sign him the next day there is nothing owed to Spurs. Why he would choose to do that rather than go elsewhere as a free agent is a different question but who knows, maybe he likes it here and/or would feel a debt to the club for the fortune we have paid him already for little return and/or we are the best he could do?
You do wonder if the amazing support that he’s witnessed at Goodison would have maybe a little sway….

Are people being serious here saying resign him when his contract expires?

‘Earned’ nearly £10m from us in the 2 years that he’s been here…
The only thing that should happen to him when his contract expires is that he finally gets flushed like the useless turd he is.

I don’t get the mentality of a lot of posters here hating on Dele because he’s rich. What difference does it make how much we’ve paid him, what car he drives and what kind of jeans he wears of all things?
He’s been injured and addicted to sleeping pills because he couldn’t deal with being raped and involved in gangs etc. whilst he want a child - that’s why he hasn’t played.

The reason he is incredibly wealthy is actually a reason we should care about on the footballing side - it’s because he was once the best attacking talent in the country and used to be the first name on the England team sheet.

I’ve not seen anyone saying he’ll come back and be world class again, but anyone with a bit of common sense knows these points:

1. We shouldn’t have ever signed him on a three year deal but it’s not exactly his fault that Kenwright chose to and why would he say no?
2. Him coming out and doing that interview after going to rehab means he wants to get better and play football again
3. He knows how to be a top level footballer
4. Dyche would never ever play someone who isn’t ‘Dyche fit’
5. Dyche wouldn’t drop someone like Doucoure for anyone who isn’t 100% bought in and committed to the cause - see players like Gray and Iwobi being moved on because of their mentality

Who knows what will happen, but if we see him line up again, it won’t be the half fit lad playing inside his shell that we saw under Lampard. Remember the difference between half fit Dom under Lampard and the Dom we’ve had under Dyche.
brilliant post

Just putting the can we/ should we pay up aside for a minute.

Most of his injuries have been muscle esp thigh related in his career.

If (and I know it's a big if) our rehab physio team can do what they appear to have done for Dom we might be able to get him right and on the pitch again.

He is 27 years old so has a good 5/6 years left in him (if he can stay injury free) but I hear a lot of people saying he will never get near what he was.

Well physically his injuries have been muscular in the main.

Mentally I think he is tough not weak.

To carry around in his head what he has had to do and still be a top top player says a lot in my book. It was always going to catch up with him in the end.

With Dyche playing the role of a proxy father figure and the club being supportive of Dele it could if Dele reallly wants it be a fantastic story.

As I said, putting the fee wrangling to one side.

He has 6 games to play...if he can...to prove his worth, how long that will take, if he ever does - who knows?
If he's not got his 6 in by Easter are we going to fork out £10M for the arse end of a season?
But come the end of June he's a free agent and can go where ever he wants.
We have to pay him until then whether or not.

Abdoulaye Doucoure, Vitaly Mykolenko, Dwight McNeil, Kieran Trippier - all players whose careers he is helping or has helped advance. And all with much less natural talent than Dele.

That was off the top of my head. And I'm not even a massive Dyche fan.
It’s a stretch to say they all were in a worse starting point though.
All internationals playing regularly in the top flight of English football, who commanded multimillion transfer fees, not a bad starting point compared to an ex international who hasn’t had a sniff for England for years despite supposedly being in his prime, who couldn’t hold down a spot in the Turkish league and who Spurs were so desperate to be rid of they basically gave him away to the most gullible / desperate pair of clowns they could find.
I do think Dyche would see it as something of a personal challenge to restore Dele to something of his past glory though, I suspect we will know soon enough if even Dyche thinks he’s a busted flush or not.

Sorry for the confusion, 'starting point' was referring to their natural talent, of which I don't think there's much debate.
