Confirmed Signing Demarai Gray

Gray is sound. Its that risk free signing that we've all sat in here and said we want Everton to sign. £1.5m is sound and even if it doesnt work out, we'll absolutely make our money back no problem. Add in his wages will be less than what he is replacing (Bernard).

Whilst i wouldnt have wanted us to sign Townsend, i can see why we are. Benitez clearly likes him and trusts him - its similar to Carlo signing Allan, Martinez signing Kone, even Koeman signing Stekelenberg. He's free, will again be on a wage thats less than Bernard, even when you combine it with Grays' and if the rumours are true, we've been smart and only given him a 1yr deal with option for another - again, Townsend is risk free, its an extra body in that the Manager trusts for little money.

Both signings make sense. Both will contribute more in terms of numbers than Bernard and Iwobi ever have.

They don't like people on here that are logical and sensible...

agreed, next time we are 0-1 down at home Sheff UTD and we bring on bloody Bernard and Gomes (we did last season) we should be relieved that we will at least be able to bring on pace and the ability to cross a ball with these two.

Would rather sign Dumfries and play a back 3 with him and Digne playing as genuine wing backs. At least they are both top class in their positions.

if we can’t afford top class wide midfielders then play a formation that doesn’t need them. Don’t waste money with a couple of diddies who aren’t good enough to start for us.

These are pure Watford signings lads, as much as you want to dress it up.

As i've seen many a time...

If Spurs sign Demerai Gray for £1.5m, everyone is fuming that we're doing £28m Iwobi business.

Sometimes a free agent is a stop gap, and does the job. Marc Albrighton going from Villa to title winner in a season, some players need the right fit, and whilst Andros Townsend is far from my first choice. Low wages, and a 1-year rental isn't going to kill me. Play him in the cup, bring him on for some pace... that's all good for me.

Have you seen Dumfries outside of the Euros?

I haven't, and whilst I think he'd be a welcome addition, would he really be classed as Top Class? He could, of course, turn out to be a gem, but the fella could be a dud, like a fair few Eredivisie players who move to bigger leagues.

£1.5m for Gray is absolutely fantastic business.

My gut feeling is they are very much out of necessity, given recent reports. I don't think we would be signing them otherwise.

If we get 2 or 3 high profile players, they won't seem so bad and will be useful squad filler.

They’re just back up. Gray behind Richie and Andros behind what ever wide right player we sign
It’s cool

No I haven’t and that’s a fair point. It’s fair to say, in his position, he looks a class above Gray and Townsend though, no?

Grey deal is great tbf. £1-2m, lowish wages and has lots of talent.

If he finds some consistency here then its a steal and his value rockets. Lots of players do the rounds before ending up at clubs and hitting form. Some players and clubs just fit - lets hope this is the case.

If it doesnt work out, then we would easily recoup a fee and even make a profit - there will be clubs wolling to pay £5m for him

Smart business all round this one.

Imo Townsend is just replacing Bernard, so if he plays more than 100 minutes its an improvement.
