Gray will be good for 1.5 million, I think he’s a steal, had huge promise at Leicester but it never quite worked out. He’s not in the same category as Townsend who I think is just the Walcott/King cover for the flanks but getting paid a lot less.

Still think we're missing a massive trick not having scouts camped in France, because some of the talent which has emerged from there (both French and International players), is nothing short of astounding.

It’s smart in my book. Bernard probably going, Walcott off the wage bill, that’s 200k per week out the door for two players who barely contributed last season. We’ve replaced them with two wingers for a combined fee of 1.5 mill getting paid a lot less and will hopefully provide a lot more (would be hard not to). Isn’t this the sort of recruitment people wanted? Or did they just want us to throw money at whoever is flavour of the month? I remember when every window we ‘had’ to buy Grealish or Zaha as though they were the only two players on the planet. Now neither are mentioned at all but we ‘have’ to buy Bailey? Why.

The crazy thing is, at the moment at least, we haven't replaced anyone we've just signed more crap squad players.

Besic, Bolasie and Walcott's contracts finished at the end of last season.

Olsen and King's loan spells have also ended.

Also if Brands was signing a
19 year old Gray for £1.5 million the fut hipsters would be rejoicing to the Gods that we have a youngun going into the under 23's to be transformed into a superstar by "Unsy" when in reality 9/10 young signings never end up making the grade.

As i posted a few pages back - i fully see the logic in signing both of these. Both fill the squad with a decent amount of quality whilst also not draining the Club of money similar to that of someone like Bernard.

If anything though, signing Townsend mainly shows how not fit for purpose the U23s is. We SHOULD be plucking someone from there to replace Bernard on the bench and for that someone to offer similar if not better than Bernard, its clear we haven't got anyone down there good enough and thats on the Club, and more specifically Unsworth.
