I also think you have to factor in a couple of additional things. Firstly we have watched a crocked Bolasie, Walcott, Lennon, Sandro, Iwobi fill the wide positions pretty badly. You have had the likes of Madisson, Barnes etc doing so. You are used to watching better players.

Secondly we just had no pace in the side really. So even though he is inconsistent the things he is consistently quite good at are the things we have missed.

I don't think anyone would say he is good enough for where Leicester are, but that's still a fair bit beyond Everton. He has started very well though and you can only hope he realises the opportunity he let slip at Leicester and will want to make amends here. He won't be a world beater but I think he can be quite an effective footballer. I will repeat what I said at the time really, we have paid 1.5m for a player of a similar profile and ability level to Iwobi, who we paid 30m for. While I hope Iwobi comes good, it's easy to see who the better buy was.
We don't really do well when we buy for big money lukaku aside

We have to believe in him. He's going to have an off day or two it isn't a good idea to drop him for weeks over it. Keep him playing and let him keep going.
Spot on this - we should have done the same with Moise Kean. We still should, hope Benitez gives him a chance if no one comes in for him.

That goal was a bit of quality that Everton midfielders have been allergic to. Good feet great slot. We've paid about 100m on a few players who havent done that is a few seasons.
This lads done it in two games for 1.5m.

I wish we could do better with Kean but at least we have a good reason with DCL and Richarlison both to this point being better players and Kean not really fitting in a team that already had both. Gray there will be no similar excuse, you can't drop him to play Townsend for extended periods.

Gray is a good and sensible purchase. No one expects him to dominate in all the matches he plays, but he has skills that allow him to create imbalance in the opponent. We as a team can take advantage of this because the opponent must take this into account. 1 vs. 1 he will create problems for most players. The problem before is that he has been too unstable in his performances, and in part been a mood player.

I think he has said himself it was time to grow up. Not a boy anymore.
I think(hope) Everton can benefit from this.
