2022/23 Demarai Gray

I’m sorry but I don’t believe Demarai Gray is the only player in our squad capable of scoring a penalty. Feel free to explain if you do.

At the time of him scoring both pens, DCL wasn't in the squad. I don't think any other player has taken a pen and scored for us in a match.

Anyone can take a pen, but not many can take a pen and consistently score.

We could probably get £10 million for him. I’d rather sell him, Holgate, Keane, Maupay for smallish fees than well one of our better players like Pickford. I get the concern over who we would bring in, but that isn’t a reason not to sell him. He doesn’t contribute enough on a consistent basis.
The biggest problem we have though is when we sell someone we don't replace them, we've done it consistently over the last few seasons which is one of the many reasons for the state of us at the moment.

I think McNeil would probably score a pen like. Gray hadn’t taken any for us before the Brighton one. It really isn’t a specialist skill for a premier league footballer to score a penalty.

Depends how much we get for him really. You can look at 10m as 5x profit, but are you actually replacing him adequately with that money? As others have said, we probably need to replace him before we sell him to be sure we're doing the right thing. Especially when we already need wingers before we sell Gray.

No, We vastly improved and stayed up last season when Dyche brought him in out of position to replace Maups/Simms
He can be the most frustrating player ever with the talent he possesses, but he played a big part in the end to make sure we are still playing Premiership football for the final season of Goodison Park.

Whatever you think of him, we haven't got a chest of gold and we woudn't be allowed to spend it if we did.
So even if only a squad player next season, it would be silly to move him on before BMD now....
Well if we sold him and keep Tom Davies it would be beyond explanation.

If we can upgrade on him then fine but I wouldn't be too quick to strip his pace from the attack despite his limitations.

I don't trust the club to replace him at all let alone adequately replace him.

The contract extension offers for Coleman and Davies suggest to me that we have little funds to bring in new players.

Don't you worry about wingers.
Diamond formation coming up.
Holgate at base to drop into the defence when our new LB goes on a mad one up and down the line.
Either that or we go 433. Don't need to replace him if you don't play that system 🤔🤣

You say that mate when literally half of our players can't even trap a ball lol

It shouldn't be a specialist skill I agree but I honestly wouldn't put £1 on 90% of the squad to take a pen during normal time in a match.

I’ve said I quite like him and I think he’s always done his best but under Dyche he’s not been able to contribute because he doesn’t fit the plan.

Let’s say we had £15m to spend on a striker but if we sold Gray for £12m we’d be able to buy a £30m striker (factoring saving on wages) I think that works and would upgrade the squad more than having Gray who doesn’t really fit plus a £15m striker.
Or we'd buy 2 Neil Maupays.

Evenomics.

At the risk of going hugely off topic in the Demarai Gray thread, I'm seeing adverts for forklift trucks. Utterly baffled as to why, unless GOT has a new specialist sponsorship deal.

Back on topic, I would be surprised if he's here that much longer. Next couple of windows he might go if he's out of favour with Dyche. Or if someone makes a silly offer. But I can't see who, unless a promoted club goes a bit mad in the market. But I don't get that vibe from any of them.

Just feel like the club are popcorning us now thinking how many forwards can we sell without replacing before the supporters really kick off. If we get someone in fine but I wouldn't be selling until late into the window and we know how things have shaken out.

Plus we need players to be able to bring on off the bench. Gray would reasonably fit the bill if Dyche allowed it to.
But let’s have it right he’s a bang average player and doesn’t really contribute and is just brain dead around the box. I get we don’t have much money, but if we got say 12mil it would be pure profit. And that could buy us a 35mil winger.

I’d rather the club sell players like gray If it allowed us to buy better.

If we sell him and take away his 5 goals from last season that will put our total goals for the season to about 6.

If we could sell for decent money and replace with better yeah sure, but I'd rather be bringing players in before we weaken ourselves further
2 pens and one worldie, which is probably a once a season goal. So take away pens and he got 3. 1 more than coady. He’s never been a goal score and I don’t think he’s many assists from open play since he joined. Maybe 2/3 max.

He’s no great loss especially if we can get 10/12mil
