Transfer Rumour Denzel Dumfries

That isn't my take though. Not sure where I've said that.

I expect real scouts/analysts to back up opinions telling a whole fanbase not to worry with facts otherwise why believe him over anyone else?

It's not what I'm saying your position is. I'm saying that if you want him to believe your eye test over his, you'd better come armed with facts like that.

He's not going to argue with you over Twitter because he knows it's Twitter. The best case scenario for an argument is that you agree to disagree. The worst case scenario is that he looks bad. So he pre-emptively agrees to disagree, because that avoids the risk of looking bad.

If you slap down facts on the table and he blows you off, you flip the script. He now looks bad, so he engages with you instead.

I think your mistake is thinking that Twitter is a place for productive discussion. It's not. It's a game people play for status and influence. If you read his bio at the top, he has a bunch of US professional designations. All he wants is status and influence. If he wanted conversation, he wouldn't be waving credentials in your face.

Not sure which source to trust but there's a whole lot of games at RB according to Transfermarkt. Also, I didn't know until now that he's captained PSV. The more leaders we can get (that aren't Delph), the better.

Frandel French fries is his username on the PSV equivalent of GOT where he frequently starts threads titled '4 boss things, 1 crap thing'.

Sign him now.

He hasn't really played all that much at wing-back as far as I know, bar the Euros.

He's been a right-back for PSV all along but that's only that when I've seen him, he's played there.

Would be good to have a player who can play both.

How long before he starts getting called crap ?

I think i was the first who picked out the negatives lol

In the premier league? lol

Has this guy seen him play?

Nah, he stopped dreaming about me as soon as he got a glance of my younger sister ;) Now I'm only his debt nightmare. Which reminds me, how is that speedo shot coming along @ForeverBlue92?

"Debt nightmare" gosh thats brilliant lol

Same here. Stopped when Lozano left. But presumably he's playing well enough in a back 4 to be picked for the National team

im the same, watched when Lozano was there then a handful of times since.

He wasnt good when Lozano was there and hasnt stood out aside from being a big athletic player in the games ive seen since so must have massively improved.

He's saying that he does this for a living and that your opinion doesn't count unless you slam some evidence onto the table to back it up.

To be fair, you probably could have phrased that one as: "Are you sure that playing in the Dutch league in a back four means the player can make the jump to the Prem level at that position?" You could have cited some examples, such as Altidore if you really wanted to get his goat. A hit rate comparison across leagues, especially if you have that data for the position, is how you convince a data-driven Yank to take you seriously.

I'll listen to a qualitative argument like your positional sense one that you didn't express to him since I don't watch tons of football games. If I was a professional with a position I felt was well-researched, I probably would have taken what you said to be bait.

Should just ask him:

1: Why are you excited about having a right back who isnt a consistently good passer?

2: Do you think hes interesting us due to similarities with Coleman, e.g poor crossing ability?

3: You thought Sidibe was a "shockingly effective" defender. In that case why didnt we buy him and now youre saying Dumfries is better -- why ?

….so @Zatara wants to be on record as being the first to call Dumfries out for being a poor signing. I think that’s fair. Many of us like the look of him. We can discuss this until we’re blue in the face but we’ll only truly be able to judge after he’s played a number of games for us.

If he signs, I’m really looking forward to seeing who we bring in to play ahead of him. If it’s somebody with real attacking threat and creativity, for the first time in a long time we could have a right side that we enjoy watching.
