Depressing towns!

Grew up near Warrington in the sixties and seventies. My mum would take me in the old covered market off Sankey Street to buy cheese and fish. I loved it. There was a seperate hall in which old fashioned drapers would have roll upon roll of brightly coloured cloth. Second hand bookstalls, ironmongers - it had all the traditional shops. It smelled musty and aged. And I absolutely loved it. Not been in town for about thirty years so I guess it's all gone now.

Used to go the ABC cinema next to Arpley bus station - saw my first (and only) porno film there aged about 13.

Warrington was OK by me back then. Not sure now. Cromwell's statue still at Bridgefoot?

Yeh the new shopping centre is lovley, completley demolished most of the old one, though the other way of town down near asda and that is just dead now.

I think he means the one in the centre of warrington Roy. Theres a multi story car park joined on to it. It would be ok for wheelchair users mate.

I think its called the golden square mate and its all on one level. Oh by the way when you come out of there you'll be street level too so you can explore the town a bit. I know this cos the mrs takes me out sometimes if I'm good. She thinks I'm a life support machine for a wallet.

Chester always depressed me. I know it is hardly a shithole but whenever I've been there, all I've seen is a bunch of chavs shopping till they drop. And to be honest, I find Manchester just a little bit miserable as well.

Its the people that make a place; and I think this thread has been too kind on some of the southern england armpit towns; Reading, Bracknell, Bedford, Luton, Banbury, Cheltenham, Trowbridge, Taunton et al, all anonymous shitholes. Liverpool (the place of course), is one of the best cities in Europe. It was long before the COC, and will be long after COC. Why? The people and the peoples club, thats why.

I've not been there for donkey's years now, Roy. I've got to admit that I was not particularly impressed by it, though. Even St. Helens is less depressing.

ive been alll over the country and corby is by far the most horrible town.

the town center is basically a tower block of scummy flats on top of a mcdonalds.

the surrounding area is what appears do be a drying out clinic for alcoholc scottish social oucasts.

driving through there is like taking a glimpse of the end of the world.
