Desired Scientific Discoveries

There was an American bloke who made an engine powerful enough to power cars years ago, fuelled solely on water - the engine (fuel cell) was taken off him along with all of the blueprints etc, and he died mysteriously afterwards.

Stanley Meyers his name. Theres too much money in oil, just like theres too much money in pharmacology.

State of this mate. A perpetual motion car engine and pharma not wanting to cure cancer, as there's no money in it. In a thread about science :(

Slowly getting there. WiFi, induction,,mobile phones. Electricity by induction is the only one so far with short range?
Apparently very long range power transmission is now feasible through DC connects, so in principle you could have think of a global energy internet. Geopolitically, though, it doesn't seem possible to run power cables around the world, so I can make a cup of tea using electrons from China. I guess we do run communication cables around the world though so who knows?

Something like this must be the answer for solar power if we evolve to a more stable global society - stack the panels a million deep in the desert, and distribute the power long range.

I think you think abit too deep mush

Now most of us won’t live to see many of the cool things we’ve dreamed of come to fruition but if there was something you’d most like to see in regards to science what would it be?

Do you think we’ll ever take VAR to a Ready Player One level?

Do you think the stack technology in Altered Carbon will become a thing?

Will we use synthetic bodies akin to those in Avatar to explore other planets?

Do you think biologists will ever create mutant genes?

Teleportation? Time travel?
I do think we will be able to watch football through VR soon. Actually viewing from running around on the pitch as the match is on going... The novelty will probably wear our fairly quickly though...

Sounds way too energetic for me

Something that'd enable everyone to find that person who you wake up next to and think "how'd I get so lucky?"...it'd make just about everything else in the world tolerable, no matter how f'ed up it is. You can always spot an older couple who've been in love for decades...they stand out significantly and you can tell they've just lived a better life, no matter their social status.

His engine is in the public domain and is widely ridiculed as pseudoscience. An engine that breaks the laws of thermodynamics doesn't scream credibility and his myriad excuses to avoid it being looked at by any experts in the matter are the hallmark of a charlatan. There's a lot of money in oil but there's also a lot of money to be had by not being reliant upon the importation of oil. Why hasn't big oil crushed the electric car?

As for a scientific discovery I'd like some kind of machine that enables someone to accurately feel another persons pain or other physical sensation. It'd be great for diagnosing stuff. It'd also be good for calling out soft-arses and blaggers or alternatively encouraging empathy with genuine sufferers.

But most important would be it's applications in the world of porn.

Dc is not a good way of transmitting electrical power over long distances as you can't easily step up the voltage to reduce the impact of resistance.

Unless I've misunderstood what you're saying.

Nuclear fusion reactors actually becoming practical. Masses of energy on the cheap.

A way to stop aging would be nice too.
