Did Madrid do us a favour?

I like most Everton fans thought the sky had fallen in when Carlo went to Madrid, where do we go from here, not to Rafael!!!. But 3 games into the season and it is clear that Rafael's impact is plain to see, with two outfield additions, both have had a huge impact, but it's what he is getting out of the players we already had, Iwobi, Allan, Doucoure and others they look like different players even Gomez is looking better. They are clearly enjoying greater freedom and playing a challenging exciting blend of football.

It's not perfect and there is a long, long way to go, but I respect that he wants everyone in the team to work, which is why he is so anti JR I think we have missed that grit.

Either by design or default, we have found a strategy that works, Rafael, Gray, Townsend, Iwobi, all sharing a common theme they all need this to work, the reality for me is that I think we can expand this in the coming transfer windows, to tap into that shared need to be successful.

There is an opportunity out there to benefit from the rising problem of managing and motivating more and more teenage millionaires. Don't get me wrong for every Gray, there is a Delph or Walcot but identifying that need to prove people wrong, or to have a legacy either way we need to make hay and build on crating a squad of players that want to play and want success.
All for the positive Outlook lad, but let's forget we looked like Barcelona 2012 after the last 3 games last season. Signs look good but game at a time.

OP's last sentence confused me a little. Why would you want to crate a squad of players that want to play and want success? Surely it's the players who don't want those things, that need putting in a crate...and binning.

But generally speaking? yes, Madrid, in taking Barney off our hands, did us an immense favour.

Certainly not missing Carlo and the type of football we played last season, which I'm suprised at personally. Rafael has done well, couldn't have asked for more really. 4 games in, generally performed well, can see what he is trying to do and the football has been genuinely good at times. I just wish he would get a new suit/throw that massive knotted tie in the bin. I was flat as a fart going into this season after watching ancelotti walk off into the Madrid sunset but there's a good start to build off and he's getting more out of the squad already. Will be gutted to see James leave but hey ho, if he can't be arsed working for the shirt then see ya later pal.

Knee jerk reacction.. so far raphatel is under 2 points vs Carlo .. and he (Carlo)Beat spurs.. hold your horses until the end of the season.

Raphatel (who is already behind) is about the same 2 injuries to become second half season Carlos everton....

Haha we won 2 games against sh*'te opposition and suddenly he is the messiah , when in fact he just a naughty little toad. I shall enjoy coming back to this thread as the season progresses

I will not get excited about our start. But good we have started well as everything seemed to go wrong since the win at the Pit.

A bad start and Benitez would be under huge pressure already, particularly with these fixtures.

I'm not expecting a great deal more really, just a continuation of the basics, and build a solid foundation.

It took me about 15 minutes to recover from Ancelotti leaving. I was neither angry nor sad, just a tad annoyed as to where it would leave us.

I think it's becoming more apparent that Ancelotti just wasn't into the gig here, and I don't think he applied himself fully to the task either.

I don't accept that we were as bad as we finished last season. We are not a great deal better, but not as bad as that. It ranked right up there with Big Sam, worse even, given the expectation. That's how bad it was.

Ancelotti can get on with restaurant reviews in Madrid. It must be great for him now the restrictions are not what they were in Spain or elsewhere. I'm sure the players there can be left get on with managing themselves.

If ancelottis had played he would have been gone by christmas

Coasted by on an impressive away record in empty stadiums

Guy had us playing the worst football ive ever seen, even when we won i felt relief the game was over rather than joy

I think so yes. Carlo was never going to do well here with 1 foot in the door and the other 1 out. He came for a fat pay check nothing more. World class managers do well at world class
Clubs with world class players and massive money to spend. I’d love to see the likes of Pep, Klopp, and Mourinho at a club like Brighton. Let’s see if Sky consider them world class managers then.

Carlo won his first 7. False dawns and all that.

I liked Carlo, but there did seem to be something amiss last season - whether it was down to him not really being arsed (which might have been true at times, though some of the results he was getting would suggest otherwise) or because of what players were available to him is something most of us will never know.

Certainly Benitez (so far anyway) seems really committed and the worst of the crabs cannot play for us at the moment, so both of last seasons problems seem to have gone away.
