Didn't we only go for Cavani after Giroud turned us down? That was my understanding anyhow.

Did we heck go for Cavani.

If we did it suggests their club couldn't sign a striker with Cavani level money which is embarrassing.

But the story sounds completely made up and if there was any truth in it why didn't we go for messi and dyabala as well? Just as realistic

Remembers Koulibaly. Phantom bids to make us seem like we big time

Actually, we did make an offer to PSG for Cavani, but it was too late in the window and allowed not enough time for negotiation and necessary contract talks to be concluded.

To say a bid was not made it incorrect.

If you had suggested it was a last-gasp effort, you would be correct.

I agree it's the same as asking a fit but older bird out that is out of your league and getting rejected, then asking her even fitter younger friend out while she is standing right next to her. However don't ask, don't get.

It is true though.

Moshi said we went up to their asking price but wouldn't sell, they said they wouldn't sell whatsoever

He said he wouldn't sell until a replacement was found. They put a price that they thought no one would match (remember it was the summer before this price hike) and we did. Unlikely he would want to come granted, doesn't make it a phantom bid though, does it?

One day someone will say yes and if we then back out at that point then fair enough you would be right.

Can't find that about the replacement. Only seen that he wasn't for sale, no asking price mentioned.

Nevertheless he became available for cheaper afterwards and if we were seriously interested you'd have thought we'd go back in for him.

The fact that they even thought it worth responding to is encouraging.

I honestly didn’t think our rumoured interest even warranted a response.

Maybe they’re a bit more concerned than we give ourselves credit for???

It’s a poor season by Athletico’s standards, regardless of the chairman’s comments in reality they are already out the champions Lge and league contention, maybe the club themselves fancy a change. After giving Simeone a large contract recently, this could be the easy way out for them.
