Difference between a Legend and Cult Hero

The dictionary defines a hero as, “ a person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose.â€￾ The definition of a legend is, “one whose fame promises to be particularly enduring.â€￾ In any circumstance that you are using one of these words, you could more than likely make them interchangeable and substitute the other in its place. But in this instance, the difference is the point that is trying to be made. Somebody can be a hero for 15 minutes, a day, maybe a month, but eventually over time, heroes are forgotten and lost in society, while legends did something so extraordinary that they will never be forgotten.

Just Beautiful!!! My view is it is completely subjective....each to their own! For me his attitude towards the game and this club is what makes him legendary more than anything else!!

He gave 8 years to the club, always gave his all and scored important goals. If people want to call him a legend then I for one wont slate them. Plus he's a blue through and through

If we're basing legendary status on attitude & putting 100% effort in then surely Stracqualursi is an Everton legend, he must have had a few lines before he took to the turf that night...

The truth is he's no legend. A legend is like king Arthur. I don't think you can compare him to king Arthur.

I'm sorry you've got such an anti Cahill agenda mate, I really am. A professional footballers contribution goes beyond what is done on the pitch. Cahill is a name that defines the last decade at Everton, he's leaving a legacy behind, not only in Liverpool, but all around the globe. How many players do you know that have tried to give so much back to the club and the game in general? He spends his off seasons back in Australia running clinics every year.

He gave 7 very good years where he provided well over 50 goals. But i'm sorry, that's all it is to you aye, the goals? Cahill did everything for this club, on and off the pitch. He played in any position that was asked and gave it 150%, even if it was unnatural to him. He's a legend in my eyes mate, just because he didn't win anything doesn't mean he can't be labelled that because that's cruel. Is he a great footballer? no, he isn't. He was a footballer that always punched above his weight just like this club has been doing for the last decade. Just because he isn't the most gifted footballer doesn't mean he is not a legend.

No. There's nothing subjective about it. Fact is, Cahill is NOT a legend. He's more of a cult hero. No different from Straq really.

Just stop it. It's an absolutely ridiculous comparison, insulting to say the least. You're equating Cahill's entire Everton career to a large clumsy Argentinian who had a loan spell here? Really, stop it.
