weve gone backwards plus cost more since appointing a DOF...plus the long term contracts of poor players is leeching money from our club .....at least 6-8 players we have now......

This summer will tell alot regarding Brands. But I'm beginning to have serious doubts about him. Isn't a DOF supposed to have autonomy over the whole structure of the club, at City for example all teams from the academy to first team play a certain way.

We have Unworth playing a certain way and a win at all costs attitude, not developing talent or sending them out on loan until it's too late.

It all seems very muddled to me at the moment, the Iwobi signing on deadline day triggered major alarm bells, it was like we had no plan B,C,D so we settled for X and overpaid 15m too much.

I wouldn't have trusted any of our last 4 managers with total control of transfers, I'd trust Ancelotti but what happens if he leaves. Director of Football role brings at least a continuity of whatever strategy is in place at the very least.

A trophy winning, FIFA top 10 ranked coach is not crap.

I notice Greg O'Keeffe was lauding El Gaffer's time here in the Athletic a couple of days back. No idea what he said because I dont subscribe, but it underlines that Martinez's virtues have not been forgotten and he's going to look better as time goes by when we fail to hit the heights of the Camelot Season of 2013/14 for years to come.

It was an ode to the first season and nothing really about the following seasons. A decent read but a bit like reading about a triumphant FA Cup win while ignoring relegation.

Well, as long as El Gaffer is getting some credit at least.

The feller brought back passing football to Everton and banished the dark ages of the hoof; that, along with his excleent first season will always be remembered.
