If this is the guy who spent money on Ndombele I don't want him

No more frauds please

Technically that was Pochettino who had a throbber for all the donkeys that Spurs bought that summer (Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon).

Problem with the DoF is that he often takes responsibility for all signings, when that's not really part of the role. There will be scouts making suggestions, and managers making demands.

You can say yes or no to a player, with no idea whether they will work out as Eden Hazard at Chelsea, or Eden Hazard at Real. There's a balancing act involved where I reckon scouts should be validating manager's choices, or recommending players to suit a system - but some, like Benitez, will clearly say "get Andros and Rondon on the phone", and it's part of the DoF's job to make that happen, I guess.

So if Lampard wants Tammy Abraham back from Serie A (for example), what do you do? It'll be pinned on the DoF, which as a responsibility is valid, but it doesn't really mean that the DOF recommended him.

We're not getting one. I think that is abundantly clear by now.

It's been a disatrous role and completely alien to Everton.

As predicted.
To be fair winning things has been alien to Everton for the last 30 years.
We did however have great success in the era when the team was chosen by committee and the ‘manager’ was in effect a glorified P. E. coach. Why not return to those days?
Very few managers work ,or expect to work, without a DoF nowadays.

CEO
Manager
Chief scout
Academy Head

That's all you need.

What trophies did they win under this guy? None, you say?

He'll fit right in.

Seriously, though, he's probably a good hire. We could do worse than hiring someone who made stuff happen under the tightfisted one himself.

I might want to rephrase that last bit.

He's crap mate

Not really the jist of what I was saying.

The "ability" of the DoF is often very little to do with the judgement of the player, but rather the ability to make the deal happen.

Half the issue with getting Steve Walsh and somehow expecting to inherit the entire scouting ability of Leicester City

A dof isn't needed, lampard decides who he wants, he contacts the team and enquiries about their availability. simples

The concern with Hitchen is that he got lost, swallowed up and overruled by Levy, Poch, Paratici at different times in his Spurs life cycle.

We need anything but a character who will wilt or bend to opposing forces or internal dynamics.

I’m open minded on the concept - but want to see the value. We’ve probably had one of our most efficient windows (including recruiting a new manager) in a long time without a DOF.

Ill take a vowel please Carol.

Wouldn't take Hitchen. We should be going for someone with direct experience in a DOF role. He seems to have been a trumped-up Chief Scout at Spurs. It's not the same role at all, and a far broader skillset is required. Ideally we would recruit someone with experience in the PL or one of the other big leagues. We don't have the luxury of too much experimentation after a catalog of failure.

I worry that Kia is in essence DOF. So they want someone to work into him who knows him.
