Yes it seems that most clubs have a DOF but listening to Spurs fans about the man who has just left the club most were glad to see the back of him.

Maybe the Spurs fan who comes on here now and again could offer his opinion, if he hasn’t already done so.
Reckon being a DOFs is a bit like being a politician; people only ever remember the bad things you do, never the good, and people are always glad to see the back of you.

Mish Mash is how I describe our recent several years of recruitment not helped by the manager merry-go-round since Moshiri took over. We haven't been able to establish a style and each Manager brings his own which, given the numbers of players we have and/or are stuck with because of ridiculous contracts, means we never establish a style to suit. In fairness to the players their heads must be scrambled by the contradictory tactics from one season to the next. Hopefully Lampard will now lay down solid foundations to rectify this.

Unless you're really successful and cultivate a great public image, yup.

Very few manage that in either line of work.

Not sure if we do, and not sure if we don't. Why, because I have yet to be convinced that it has worked so far at the club. If, as it is widely believed, that the owner, or his close friend Kia will always be sticking their two-pennith in then what is the point? At the moment Frank seems to be surrounding himself with all the key personnel that he needs to do the job. If Frank asked for one to be put in place to take some of the day-to-day stuff off his shoulders, then, okay, appoint someone with his approval. Is there a demographic anywhere that shows the success or failure in this role across football in general?
At the end of the day surely we all want what is best for the club, so if it can be demonstrated that it will be, then have one, if not, don't!

Don't need one, its a ridiculous role made up by a scout with a big ego. All you need is a chief scout and good scouting network then let a CEO do the negotiations. The role leads to many grey areas, was it his signing, was it a managers etc
The director of football should stretch over scouting and all other areas of the club. Making sure we have a continuity plan if the manager leaves, potentially outlining a style of play and the players we need to make it successful. Also looking at youth level and implementing a Syllabus and programme us to see us sign the best and develop players both for our first team and for future transfers fees.
The director of football shd be responsible for us recognising Everton as a club, what we stand for on the pitch and ensuring that the style does differ too drastically with every change of manager.
