Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

I haven’t achieved much with my life but the one thing I can say with absolute honesty is I rarely meet anyone who is better read than me. That might sound a bit arrogant but it’s just the result of hours upon hours of solitude and having had parents who encouraged me to read from a young age.

I do. Currently reading Philosophical Investigations by Wittgenstein. Not ashamed to say I’m finding it difficult.
You weren’t kidding were you ? I enjoy reading but In not unfamiliar territory I’m taking a standing eight count here .

Boxing was always mine , I’m way too old now mind but I still do a bit of training and it helps my focus . As @ForeverBlue92 has mentioned anything like that is great , he’s clearly significantly more experienced than me , but I signed up for some genetic MMA stuff a few years ago and still pop in and out and as he said you might well find that rush there . When you talk about not having the dedication firstly that doesn’t come over night and you’ll know that having spent years at your judo but also you don’t have to do it to compete or look at any kind of serious progression just start by looking at it as something to help your fitness , occupy an hour or so and help with your overall physical and mental health .

In reality though any form of exercise can probably give you something and given what little we can glean of your personality you seem like you’d focus on it and enjoy the pride it brings . You’ve taken The first step so you should already be proud of yourself .

As Fred had said , it’s a little oasis of openness and friendliness which goes from topics including food , puns and the usual Everton nonsense .

As regards you being well read that’s something to be really proud of and it’s also something easy to fall out of the habit of but what a fantastic escape it can be . Maybe that’s something you can try and set aside some time for once you start to find your feet.

The dedication thing is just the fact wrestling is incredibly tough and gruelling. One of the up sides was that within a few months you become ridiculously fit and that’s something that makes me want to get back into it.

Got major respect for anyone who does any form of striking, getting whacked in the head is not for me though.

Oh I can imagine it’s tough mate the MMA stuff was completely different with me , those with a striking technique Usually find it difficult and if you factor in my age and I wasn’t any good at my initial discipline it was challenging but I enjoyed it . That said tough and gruelling can be fun right ? Especially once you get passed that initial hurdle , that’s when the enjoyment starts

Had to smile, " not ashamed to say..." I consider myself well read but I've never heard of author or book. Way beyond my understanding, sounds very deep ?

He was an Austrian philosopher. It’s about language and meaning but like I say I’m not sure I’m really understanding it properly. It was a gift (from the friend who visited me earlier) so I’m giving it my best.

Have you ever had a go at Godel, Escher & Bach? An old professor recommended it as particularly mindblowing but despite owning it for nearly 20 years I've never managed to get more than halfway through.

I haven’t. Will look into them but being honest I’m a very average philosopher (despite having done half an OU degree ‘majoring’ in it). My favourite work is Being and Time but I may not have understood it entirely. What I believe I understood was incredible. The first philosophical book I read was The Myth of Sisyphus and I do still have a soft spot for it.

Like the idea of off road biking but it’s a bit of a financial leap.

When I first came into contact with it the price was about 15 a G. These days it’s same price as yayo which is ridiculous to me.

Haha I can relate. When I first started getting very good MDMA I reached a point of taking a small dose on a morning and going to look at the trees for a few hours. Can’t imagine taking K in a lecture. What did you study?

aha, we used to get golf ball size rocks of MD for our flat. just before the days it went brown and sticky...

I did law, obviously lol

Me too, I'll stick with my Dr. Seuss library lol
That reminded me of one of the best moments of my life. My daughter asked if I’d like to read a Dr Seuss book to my two day old grandson who was seriously ill and in an ICU incubator. So I did , and hearing the sound of my voice he opened one eye for the first time and looked at me . Amazing things books.
