Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

Not sure what's happened with you but if your friends have given up on you then maybe you should think twice about how much of a friend to you they really are. In my opinion, a good friend is one that can go for weeks/months/years without seeing you but still provide the level of support that you would expect from a friend. Do you want to rebuild bridges with them or a new start with new friends?

They don't know my situation as I haven't told them. Theyve made the effort in trying to get me out but there's only so many times I keep standing them up before they give up. They probably just think I've got a new girlfriend. Anyhow, I've decided to tell my mate who I've known 20 years that I'm on medication etc.. We'll see how that goes!!

Good luck mate! If he's a true mate he'll be supportive.

Today is World Mental Health Day, raising awareness that mental health is at least as important as physical health. Wishing everyone who reads this thread a good day, and hope that you are strengthened in the knowledge that there are plenty of blues and others who are thinking about you and offer their support silently or through activities such as this.

It's a great start to talk to a close friend, post back with how it goes.
As for the rest - tell them too. Loads of ways of doing it other than face-to face, if that's too much right now. I don't know the figures but I reckon you'll be far from the first person they know with depression. Even if by some amazing chance you are the first, then you'll be educating them, which is a Good Thing. After that, like @efc_girl said, it's up to them.

Hey everyone, first post here I think. From Australia, have been diagnosed with depression about 12 months ago. Been on different types of medication before but they don't seem to work too much. However I'm not sure if it's just a perception issue (like because it's affecting my own brain I can't tell the change in attitude or feeling etc). Anyone have a similar experience or understand what I mean in this regard?

I'm supposed to be taking escitallopram (I believe it's like lexapro if not the same thing) but it screws with sexual stuff which is not fun and makes me feel worse in some ways.

I'm not really sure what I'm getting at or why I'm posting this but yeah. I suppose it's good to vent haha. Thanks for reading.

How come you are a Blue?

I think what you are looking for with the medication is to wake up one day and feel perfect and be on your way. When you aren't getting that feeling you are then questioning it and allowing the feeling to intensify which then makes it more difficult to contend with. does that sound like it could be anywhere in the realms of truth?

Thanks for the reply mate.

It was a mix between Tim Cahill and John Heitinga. I'm half Dutch and had been following the Dutch national team since I was young. I wasn't really into club football but then watched a few games in Martinez's first season due to the previously mentioned players' history at Everton and was hooked.

Naturally happy that Koeman is our manager now!

Thank you for your response.

And I think yeah that could be true. Because on medication it's not that I'm feeling ecstatic, it's more like I don't really feel anything (sad or happy). That mixed with the side effects various medications have on me sort of results in a disillusionment.

exactly this @stoolofman; I know Lexapro well, but it isn't instant, it's accumulative, you think it's not working, it's not working and then one day you wake up and hey, seems it has.

Also as has been mentioned here in other posts(? - well I saw it somewhere) don't look to get your 'happiness' in one big hit ( false expectations; it never happens, it's lottery win odds ) rather be content to take little bits here and little bits there...great Oaks from little acorns grow etc

I'll give it another go then. Thanks for your advice. I really do appreciate everyone replying to my comment, it honestly means a lot.

Only 'quality' Australians are Blues!

Spot on!
