Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

With any medication its never one size fits all, when I first went to my GP over anxiety/depression I was sent for blood tests and put in touch with a counsellor, a certain tablet didnt work so I was put on another with higher dosage, sometimes its a chemical imbalance sometimes its an episode from your life, other times its just stress
Id never advise anybody to just stop without consulting your GP,the pills could be the only thing stopping you cracking up or they could just have acted as a crutch you needed to get over a certain thing

Off Topic-ish, but pill related; Re Hormone replacement for women, if they don't know what your norms were, how can they replace them - or is it suck it and see until you get it right

Unfortunately/fortunately Degsy its not a problem I have,I always assumed there would be some sort of testing for it its not something I know anything about

which was what we thought and was/is the perceived wisdom

@cronullasharks But if your brain returns slowly to it's default state(?) not that 'they' know everything about how/why brains work.
There could be a case for staying on them.
Again - just sayin like...different strokes etc...recommends nothing - just telling my tale.
Yes, however the aim is usually for you to not fall back into old ways of thinking. Of course this can happen.

Some people need them longer than others though.

Have you seen your GP about feeling permanently tired? There could be an underlying, easily treatable, medical condition like anaemia or glandular fever. And without sounding like your Mum- do you eat properly? I'm no expert but from your post you seem to have had a lot going on - you've finished uni, got a job and have left behind the things you felt comfortable with. It's a big deal and sometimes things catch up with you. Are you due for any holidays. I know you say you don't like doing things on your own but could you take some time off and do what you want to do. If it's any consolation you are not alone in telling yourself what you are going to do then ignoring your own advice. I do it all the time "I'm going to do x y and z." I tell myself, then when it comes to the moment I do a,b and c.

Hope you feel better soon
Sorry for a late reply, I haven't logged on much in the past week or so. I Appreciate your reply, thank you :)

I haven't been to the GP about feeling tired, never really occurred to me to - as I've just always felt that way for as long as I can remember! I do my best to eat properly too but breakfast makes me feel ill these days, it's just too early for me to eat then. I will have to make the time for an appointment...

At this point I'm not due for time off anytime too soon, perhaps in January I could afford/be allowed to do so. The Christmas period is a busy time for my workplace, it's frustrating but it's a new place so I can sort of understand.

So chaps, am on day 6 of the citralopram and a few plus and minuses that I'd like to see if others find familiar...
On the minuses, definitely feeling a bit shaky with them, slight trembling in hands plus sore muscles in legs(??). Bit of queasiness at night on taking them also
On the plus side, I have noticed a decline in my worrying, it's still there at the back of my mind but it's not coming to the forefront at random times of day or night. I have definitely lost a bit of the anger too, I have been so quick to lose it (generally with the wife or my lad) and this seems to have worn off a bit.
I am due to go on 20mg at the end of the week and I am hoping it will improve me again but am a bit concerned that the side effects may ramp up.....

Are you due back at the docs for a script to up the dose ?.

May be a chance to speak about worries you have re the side effects.

I'm sure it'll settle down, normally takes 3 / 4 was to work properly

Due back at doc in 3 weeks, he gave me enough meds so I could double the dose after 10 days.... Not too worried about the sides as they aren't massively affecting me. If I continue to improve like this then I really wish I would have taken them years ago. It was my daft macho attitude that stopped me.....

You aren't alone in thinking like that mate, with the macho stuff ;)

That's a plus I've noticed as well mate, stupid things I'd get angry about don't tend to bother me much now. Let me know if you have less emotion watching sport too like i said in an earlier post.

Lads advice needed, started on fluoxetine tablets for a week now and I can't sleep, up at strange time then I can't get back to sleep. For example up at 1ish this morning and not been back to sleep, just started a new job and worried it's going to effect my performance.

1) Do these side effects stop after a while?

2) Should I tell my bosses?
