Discussion & help on depression & mental health related issues

bloody hell that is scary . What a brave women doing that . Hopefully that fella gets the support he needs .
Very brave. I’m actually amazed she managed to pull him back and not get dragged under with him. He’s a lot bigger than her and all his momentum was running forwards, plus the train’s speed would be pulling them towards it.

Some people are truly selfless.

Nominated - Albeit the link to the thread I provided the BBC with is two horses humping.

Everyone that contributes to this thread deserves huge praise for making it what it is, it has no doubt helped countless people. It's a subject that I've never been hugely comfortable discussing on a public forum but over the years I've opened up a bit more and that's largely due to this thread, if it gets others doing the same and pushes them to take those first steps to getting the help they need then that's brilliant.

The respect shown to this thread by everyone, despite all the other garbage that goes on on the forum sometimes is testament to just how great a place it is. There's a few regulars that are always available to help people out and offer advice, even more admirable when you think they're quite often dealing with their own mental health issues. @Groucho @COYBL25 @efcforever @EvertonRhys to mention just a few that deserve a massive pat on the pack.

So anyway, I'm off to continue posting garbage on the rest of the forum.

Done and I concur.

* I`ve provided the BBC with a link to the 2017 Miss World Dwarf contest, in the hope that they may cover it this year.

@The Dunc how`s the insomnia ?

You had a load of time off over Christmas, hope that helped ?
Christmas was brilliant. Didn't leave the house much, and we all got on great. Lots of cooking through the day, which I love, and my son joined in too. Then old fashioned board games in the evening, proper family stuff.
I did get quite a lot of sleep, but that was booze driven, as soon as I stopped drinking, no sleep again.
I got a complaint at work 3 days ago and haven't slept a wink since. It's not something I've even done, it happened when I was off sick for 5 months and should've been picked up by someone else but wasn't, but it gets in my head when I try to sleep and I'm fixating on it, don't know why.

Is there anyone in work that can help - counselling, rep etc ?

Work is what caused all of my problems, so really do know what you mean about fixating.

Yes, I'm having regular reviews with occupational health, trying to ease me back into shifts. I have a review due in Feb so will bring it up then. I've also left a message withy CBT support worker. I'm quite pleased in a way as it's the first time I've recognised something bringing on the palpatations and headaches.

They have a duty of care to you mate.

If work is making you ill, they have to do something about it.

There's a poster on here who is mustard on this stuff, she's on her hols at the mo, getting stoned in Jamaica, but I'm sure she'd advise accordingly @anjelikaferrett

It's not something that they're great at, one part time occupational health nurse for nearly 2000 staff. But it's big in the press at the minute so they're trying to improve.
It's definitely shift work that's the root cause of my insomnia, but maybe work had played a bigger part than I realised in causing the palpatations and headaches too.

I think once you start / get CBT, you'll be surprised how much work is causing this.

@The Dunc Hello. Slightly tiddly but definitely not stoned! If it has been established that you do have work related stress - even if work is not wholly responsible for your condition then you need to make sure you have reported it in the accident book. They should also do a stress risk assessment on you which tries to establish what causes your stress and identifies what makes ot worse or better..They then, with your input, come up with an action plan to help you thst should be reviewed regularly- usually monthly. I notice that you say you are meeting with occ health. Have they suggested any reasonable adjustments such as a phased return to work? Do you actually have to go back on shifts? Change of working pattern is a very common reasonable adjustment- and usually quite easy to achieve. Obviously no loss of pay should be incurred- especially to start with. If it becomes permanent you might have to take a hit on that but cross that bridge when it arrives. What sort of things are your employer asking occ healtb? You are entitled to see the referral. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice.
To be honest work aren't really saying anything, the occ health nurse has done the phased return plan and I'm currently only doing 6 hour shifts.
My GP diagnosed me with sleep anxiety but the root cause of this was never investigated. I asked to be referred for CBT and am doing a course online, no improvement in sleep so far.
I've never discussed it further with work as it's only this last thing that happened that brought on anxiety. I've never associated anxiety or stress with work before other than the sleep problem.

Just thinking out loud mate, but from what you're saying it's deffo work related, maybe be worth going back to your GP as well and asking about a sleep clinic ?.

Have a look online about them.

I don't know a great deal about them, but from what I've read they can have some very positive results.
