I changed GP and my new one seems quite good. She wants me to complete the CBT first and then look at other options if it doesn't help.

Even though it may take time, keep going mate, as it will get better once you've got to the root of what's causing the problems.

Once they know what's causing it, they can start the correct treatment, just takes time that's all.

Or, if you can afford it, pay and go private to see a sleep specialist ?

To be honest work aren't really saying anything, the occ health nurse has done the phased return plan and I'm currently only doing 6 hour shifts.
My GP diagnosed me with sleep anxiety but the root cause of this was never investigated. I asked to be referred for CBT and am doing a course online, no improvement in sleep so far.
I've never discussed it further with work as it's only this last thing that happened that brought on anxiety. I've never associated anxiety or stress with work before other than the sleep problem.
I could be chatting bubbles here, mate, but two things to try that might help with sleep problems, even if they don't fix the work stress:

1. Have decaf tea \ coffee after mid day, rather than normal.
2. (Depends on your taste) I've recently started making tea using hops (for beer). Helps if you like bitter drinks, like I do, but you can sweeten the tea with honey to counteract the bitterness if you like. Can gets the hops on eBay, and just use them like tea. Hops are said to have a sedative effect, as well as having other good properties.

Drink either hot, like tea, or cold, like beer, but not warm ... Cos that's like warm beer which is horrendous.

I found that it helped by totally cutting coffee out.

Aerobic exercise helps me massively too.

You mentioned that you work for quite a big company Do they have a stress policy? You should have been given a copy if they have. Ask to see it and talk to the occ health nurse about it. One thing tbey could do is give you micro breaks - just a quick five.minutes to go and get your head together every now and again. I'm currently representing a member who gets thst. Unfortunately her break consists of her going into the disabled loo and crying. She thinks she's getting better because she doesn't cry in the car park on the way in anymore. The nurse should also be able to signpost you to organisations who can help you with coping strategies.
 
This is a great thread. I'm going through a break up with my Girlfriend just now after 5 years together. Just reading through this is helping me realise that talking to someone helps. Finding it pretty hard to concentrate on anything for very long and got no appetite. I know all I need is time to feel better and I will feel better but just wanted to say well done to everyone who contributes to this thread.
 

Had a very low few days. The family are away on holiday so I'm home alone basically and this weekend has dragged without going into work. Still having anxieties that are have a good grip at the moment because I haven't had much else to occupy my mind, it's not nice. Hopefully it goes away and I'll have a bounce soon to level it out.

The stuff with work won't have helped mate. Hopefully that's all behind you now and this week will be better.

Hope so mate, my moods are just really rubbish sometimes and I feel need to write down for somebody, anybody, to read to help get it out the system like drawing the poison out.

Tomorrow's a new week and hopefully it's a much better one.

It always helps to get it out whether you post on here or talk to someone. Inbox me any time I'll always reply even if it's not right away?

Is it anything in particular that gets you down? Can't remember if you have the said whether you are on any medication. If you are it might be worth asking your GP to review them. Erratic moods could be down to a chemical inbalance.
 
Nominated - Albeit the link to the thread I provided the BBC with is two horses humping.

Everyone that contributes to this thread deserves huge praise for making it what it is, it has no doubt helped countless people. It's a subject that I've never been hugely comfortable discussing on a public forum but over the years I've opened up a bit more and that's largely due to this thread, if it gets others doing the same and pushes them to take those first steps to getting the help they need then that's brilliant.

The respect shown to this thread by everyone, despite all the other garbage that goes on on the forum sometimes is testament to just how great a place it is. There's a few regulars that are always available to help people out and offer advice, even more admirable when you think they're quite often dealing with their own mental health issues. @Groucho @COYBL25 @efcforever @EvertonRhys to mention just a few that deserve a massive pat on the pack.

So anyway, I'm off to continue posting garbage on the rest of the forum.

I'm really struggling with it at the moment and it's ruining my career / social / relationships. It feels as though somebody has a gun to my head, the whole time I'm in other peoples presence. Continual fight or flight mode, it's exhausting!

There’s a massive long running thread on there on social anxiety.

There’s a few on here that have posted on it, so I,m sure they’ll be able to offere advice and support.

Will take a look. Just improving my diet, trying to focus on other people rather than yourself etc. Lots of advice online but nothing has clicked for me as of yet.

CBT can normally be a great help to those that suffer from Social Anxiety mate.

Your GP is your best bet for getting the ball rolling, but it may take a while, due to waiting times etc.

From what I`ve read, Social Anxiety is one of the most common forms of anxiety, so there should be plenty of stuff out there to help you and give guidance ;)

Hi mate, I have a mild form of it and agree with @COYBL25 that counselling is really helpful to challenge any beliefs that are causing the anxiety (I usually find that my anxiety-causing beliefs are a load of BS made up by myself and realising that is really helpful because it shows me that I don't have to believe every thought that enters my head).

As you said there are lots of info sources online. Personally I find the Comfort Zone Crusher website and Youtube channel helpful but it's not for everyone. It deals a lot with exposing yourself to anxiety-causing situations with the purpose of reducing the anxiety, but there are also videos with relaxation techniques to use when socialising as well as other bits and pieces.
