Makes room for Marquinhos I guess.
I'd rather opt for Varane, but if Bill is playing on the cheap again, I'd reluctantly and grumpily accept Marquinhos too.

Just can't agree at all.
I've long given up trying to convince people of Distin's ability though. For some reason I have never quite grasped, there has always been a large undercurrent of fans who just did not like Distin. His top form for the past few years has piped them down, but half a season of poorer form and they're out in full force.
Its because he's black mate.
I think Distin has been amazing overall, but he is coming to then end now, I would imagine that unless we get a number of injuries, he will probably only play a handful of times between now and the end of the season.
We need to get someone in, if we could get Reid, that would be great, but he will probably go to Spurs.
Absolutely 110% what I would do if I was RM.it'll be a shame to see him go; he's been a great player for us - i still rate him higher than Alcaraz personally and feel that if we could sign a top CB then Distin would make a good 4th choice. That being said, if his departure means more game time for Galloway and Browning then I'm not too disappointed
He's an athlete, not a footballer, and Lescott was stratospherically more capable. The massive downgrade I never got over and I know it's not his fault, but they felt like-for-like, and he was nowhere near as good.Just can't agree at all.

I never really rated Distin I think he survived for so long because Moyes liked having a tall left footed centre back. He made more mistakes than Heitinga but his extra pace allowed him to get away with it and too an untrained eye it looked like he'd done well but 9 times out of 10 it came from his original mistake. I hope we don't use him again this season I would rather Stones and Jagielka stay as our first choice then Alcaraz and Browning. I'd even prefer to see Barry or Hibbert in there.
I think some can't see past his physicality and dismiss him as an 'Agricultural' throwback. Whist this is true to some extent you need some of that from at least one of your Centre backs (Vidic, Carragughhh, Terry). I think people have seen him slow down recently and in comparison to Stones and to some extent Jags, he's a bit one dimensional in his defending these days. Even the above listed Defenders were/are comfortable on the ball and can bring it out in a controlled fashion and as much as I like him, Distin isn't really that type of footballer. A great servant but ultimately a relic of a simpler time when you could just flatten someone for the ball then hoof it up the pitch for players to run onto.Just can't agree at all.
