Distin - Leaving ? Now at Bournemouth

Like I said before, he was making more interceptions than Jags this season. You need a footballing brain to make interceptions.

Jags' pace regularly gets him out of trouble (recall the 'fastest player in the prem' stuff from earlier in the season). I won't disagree that Distin without the pace would not be as good a player, however to say he has no footballing brain is just plain wrong. He has the most outfield appearances in the Prem era for any foreign player; you do not adapt to and thrive in this league for so long with just raw physicality.
he's the dopiest player we have mate.

If he couldn't make interceptions on instinct i'd be very very worried how he's made it in the game for about 20 years.

Just can't agree at all.

I've long given up trying to convince people of Distin's ability though. For some reason I have never quite grasped, there has always been a large undercurrent of fans who just did not like Distin. His top form for the past few years has piped them down, but half a season of poorer form and they're out in full force.

just have to agree to disagree mate, wont slate you for having your opinion on him.

Think he's always been a average player. And now he's worse than average, certainly got our moneys worth for 5m on him though.

Something's obviously at play, as he did fine last season. I really expected him to fall to pieces last year, which he did at times...just less than I thought he would. If he doesn't play 'til he's close to or over 40, I'll be surprised. Who knows at what club level, though.

I know that several have mentioned Distin's reported arrogance on here as a negative but loved it last season when he squared up to Lallana in the home game vs S'ton and his whole body language screamed "Pipe down lad". Anyone got a picture of that?

If he does get on the pitch in the derby hope he does the same again.

Distin was a great player for us. I think he just has thinnish skin and says stupid things during the heat of the moment. That's led to a negative opinion of him, and if he's being a problem in the changing rooms it's likely due to the same issue. He hates being slated, which is where comments like, "I'm the best you can afford" come from. Likely he knows he's losing it and been off the boil and it's upsetting him. His personality doesn't seem to be the sort that ages gracefully. So that's sad.

Anyhow, this was always going to come at some point, and we got a lot of great football out of him.

I truly hope he doesn't see the pitch this weekend though. He's a walking embodiment of the curse.

Entirely agree that Distin has been a great signing for us. I was so happy the day DM signed him because for years he had been a stand-out centre half. It was a mystery to me how he was not picked up by Arsenal or MU.

Now however he does not dominate the aerial battle but he is still good value and I often wonder if he is not a better fit for Stones than Jags.

He is 37 now mate. He has been a great player but unless you want to hang onto his past form forever you have to admit he is poor now because he is very close to retirement.

Very good last season. Terrible this season.
Gutted that swap deal with Reid fell through.
Reid will probably go Liverpool now knowing our luck.

Because at the time we signed him MU had Steve Bruce and Arsenal had Tony Adams :p

it'll be a shame to see him go; he's been a great player for us - i still rate him higher than Alcaraz personally and feel that if we could sign a top CB then Distin would make a good 4th choice. That being said, if his departure means more game time for Galloway and Browning then I'm not too disappointed
