There have been plenty over the years - Armstrong and Jennings for example. I think Lennon was targeted because of Celtic.

Michael O Neill was accepted as manager despite his Rovers background.

Sadly there are idiots who maintain the sectarianism, but I think/hope that is reducing significantly.
All fair but the animosity towards Celtic comes from sectarianism. It hardly encouraged Catholics to play for NI and showed that things, deep down, hadn't really changed. Might be way off as I really don't pay much attention to Internationals. (Hate International breaks) I respect people's right to choose their own path. Not my place to criticise someone's choice.

Martin O Neill was another committed NI international, Then again he was playing for Forest most of the time. I never heard of him getting hassle.

Gerry Armstrong's contribution in the documentary was compelling. He is from the North and wouldn't dream of playing for anyone else.

I can also understand McClean who played for NI as a youth opting for the ROI given his experience growing up in Derry.
Gerry grew up in the street next to my granny in Belfast in beechmount, people there don’t look favourably on the Northern Ireland team but I’d be proud as anything a local lad made it big. I always wind up my cousin saying “you can see Windsor park from the beehive , you can’t see landsdowne road” ?

Robinson was one of my lecturers in college in EU Law- dreadful. , A lot of us stopped going to her lectures and just worked off the reading list.

We also had McAleese - excellent, and Brian Lenihan RIP - huge intellect, Kadar Asmal RIP later a South African Minister, Gerry Hogan - now a Supreme Court Judge and some really good other lecturers.

Didn’t realise I’d left up that link of reeling in the years 1993, the political climate with the north was so hostile at that point, kind of gave context and just wanted to show another perspective with that scannal documentary, put to the best songs of 1993 really gives me goosebumps, poor Jamie Bolger features in that piece as well. Poor child would be the same age as me now if those two creeps hadn’t led him away from his mam. I was conscious that people here on the forum may know the family so I actually removed the link in a previous post but didn’t realise I’d posted it.

I never liked Mary Robinson personally , haha it’s funny you say that everyone just ignored her ?

Law in Trinity was just 8 lectures a week with some tutorials. Huge amount of reading required however. I was working as a barman p/t to fund my fees. She had her two weekly lectures at 5pm on Tuesday and Thursday - I wonder why....

After they finished at 6pm I had to cycle 8 miles home grab something to eat and then cycle 5 miles to work by 8.30 pm. I learnt sfa from her lectures. EU Law was dry and difficult enough without her awful lectures. It just made no sense to bother hanging around anymore as I would not be home until 1 am when working.

Always thought she talked like her teeth were about to fall out ?

An all Ireland team selection would be very interesting now at the moment. Definitely up to 6 months ago it would be dominated by Northern Irish players but I reckon not so much now. I spotted Stephen Kenny and Johnny Walters going into the Leicester game the other week.
@Cork Evertonian do you mind me asking where your support of Rangers came from? You can tell me to f off by the way, just curious.

A match annual for christmas 1993 is to blame for it, there was a section on the team that won the treble in that 1992/1993 season. I just liked the blue shirt they wore, and i was a big fan of that team with Gazza and Brian Laudrup in it.

Obviously then i became more aware, that there was some unsavory stuff associated with them as well, but to an early teenage me they were just a team with a nice blue shirt, who had some great players. I was oblivious to all that other stuff.

I'm aware that certain elements of the Rangers support might have a problem with me i suppose, but the two scottish born Rangers fans we have here seem to be decent blokes.
