Do we need a DOF?

I still doubt any DOF knows more about the game than Dycje though.
It's not about that, you are just showing you don't actually understand what a DoF even does. If a manager has the time to cover ALL the bases that the DoF does at a club then something is going very wrong. The role is there for the purpose of co-ordinating things and giving the manager/coach as much time as possible to spend working with and developing the players. It's taking all the paperwork and the off pitch stuff away from a manager so they can actually just spend time with the players. It's got sweet fa to do with who knows more about football.

Thanks for educating me. Only speaking as a life long blue who's team has turned horrific since a DOF was installed.

It’s all being done worse though since the model came in mate, every metric a DOF should be judged on. I said as much during the week, you will remember.

Ive an open mind on it tbh and am a pragmatist, if it improves things great! Has it, I think everyone can agree - no!

The variance will be the mitigation of different peoples opinion, they will blame someone else, or say we had weak DOF’s or poor governance etc, more evidence for the prosecution to my mind. But nuts and bolts, it’s been depleting and unsuccessful.

Im looking at Iwobi as the canary in the mine at the moment, if he stays (without being sold) it’s Thelwell, if he doesn’t it’s Dyche.

Dyche is doing a wonderful job and one of the things he talks about constantly is everyone at the club being aligned

He trusts his team to be aligned with his vision so if Thelwell will be aligned with Dyche too then it makes sense he handles the transfers and gives Dyche more time with the players we have

Not to shabby at the moment though mate, given the hand and threadbare squad he inherited👍
This team is not nearly as bad as people have been led to believe by the previous two managers. I'm not saying they're top half quality but he's essentially doing what an average job with this group looks like.

I have real questions about how far playing this way can go. There are plenty of things to like but also major issues that he's not actively working to correct.

Dyche will take us down. The way he ran Burnley was only ever ending up one place. It may not be this year or next, but if you don't want to build a side that can pass a football on the ground and create chances with body parts that aren't the heads of 6'3 or taller players you will eventually end up in the championship.

I'm not saying we have to play like Barcelona. I am saying that we have to at least be Brentford.

The most he spent in a season was 40 million. Most clubs blow that on 1 or 2 players.

Mate, look at this squad, part if not all down to the DOF. An injury to any one of our first 11 now is catastrophic, the bench is a sick joke. Dyche is making what he has perform above their station, and he called back Ellis. We have Cannon out on loan along with Niels and others. This DOF is either not fit for purpose(like the last one) or a koppite.

Sensible clubs and successful clubs use a DoF. Unfortunately we are neither because we have a lunatic owner who often overrules everyone and a hierarchy more confusing than the ending of Tenet. We may be one of the few clubs were a DoF isn't all that advantageous to have but that's more because we are a basket case than the role being pointless.

So let’s look at the metrics and consider how we on the functions within their remit and how have done since the model was introduced, comparitvely to the previous model:

Recruitment of managers
Scouting.
Recruitment of players
Long term strategy
Analysis
Performance Management
Contract Management
Managing Budgets
Providing Governance of the footballing dept as a board function
Academy
Rehabilitation
Medical
Managing each dept across the footballing matrix cohesively
