Honestly, I can't remember what it was that got him the gig in the first place. All very much of a non event. Apt.

The fact this fella is going to get to WC semi & quarter, and 2 euro finals, with his ONLY notable wins being against the worst German and Dutch sides in donkeys, unbelievable luck...

The FA set Allardyce up in a sting operation so that they could slot Southgate in as “interim” for the easy qualifiers and then have the perfect excuse to just keep him on. They wanted to appoint him as Hodgson’s successor but they knew there’d be massive uproar from the fans so slotted him in through the back door instead.

So, the liz truss methodology from tory hq at the fa. No wonder it's going so well.

Regardless of luck of the draw etc. in previous finals, he got us to a World-Cup semi-final and a Euro final, which is better than many other England managers.

That can't be ignored! Nevertheless, neither can we ignore how inept he has been at this tournament to take a pretty talented squad and get any tune out of them.

People will mention the fragile defence and whatnot, but right now that isn't the issue. The system he is deploying is inherently negative and counter-intuitive.

Foden, Kane, Bellingham and Saka are all being deployed in a way that doesn't play to their strengths; the squad as a whole are use to pressing, but here...

It shows how tactically limited and rigid he is, because there is no plan B, C or anything else.
