Slovakia and Switzerland in the knockouts again.

Didn’t get out the group in 2000, didn’t qualify for 2008, out to Iceland in 2016. You can’t get a good draw if you don’t qualify and get out the group. Southgate does all this, no one remembers who you play if you win it.

Its fact. Name one of those managers who took us beyond a quarter final even once, let alone three times. Most of them arguably had better players too.

Let’s see where Southgate ends up after this if he’s so great. He’s had a better overall squad than all of them too.

I’m not saying he’s so great, I said he’s ahead of the managers that have come before him for England. International game and club game are completely different.

He’s had a better overall squad than managers who had prime Rooney Owen Beckham Gerrard Lampard Scholes Terry Ferdinand Cole Neville? Ok mate.

Yeah those managers had Darius Vassell and Danny Mills coming off the bench and Southgate has Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold

Let’s look at each managers runs

Keegan in Euro 2000
Portugal, Germany and Romania in the Groups - out

Sven in World Cup 2002, Euro 2004, World Cup 06 - out in QF in all 3
Sweden, Argentina, Nigeria, Denmark, Brazil
France, Switzerland, Croatia, Portugal
Paraguay, Sweden, Trinidad and Tobago, Ecuador, Portugal

Capello in World Cup 2010
USA, Algeria, Slovenia, Germany - out

Hodgson in Euro 2012, World Cup 2014, Euro 16
Sweden, France, Ukraine, Italy - out
Italy, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago - out
Russia, Wales, Slovakia, Iceland - out

Now looks at Southgate’s runs

World Cup 2018, Euro 2020, World Cup 22, Euro 24
Tunisia, Panama, Belgium x2, Colombia, Sweden, Croatia
Croatia, Scotland, Czech Republic, Germany, Ukraine, Denmark, Italy
Iran, USA, Wales, Senegal, France
Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia, Slovakia, Switzerland, Netherlands/Turkey

Bizarre selection of certain players. Southgate has Dunk in his squad and was in despair because Maguire who is a donkey wasn’t fit to go. Can play that game with any of the squads.

Fundamentally if you asked any manager in world football if they’d rather have those players listed or the players Gareth has then every single one is taking the ‘golden generation’.
