Does the club need 'rebranding'? Something based around the new location?

I'm not really focussed on the commercial dimension. The People's Club wasn't exactly a money spinner or even meant to be. It just evolved from one comment and took hold.

The club needs something to get hold of fast and fix on to acclimatise to the move - it'll come (literally) naturally IMO: from the natural world. The river is there and will be associated with that stadium and the club for however long it lasts on its banks.

The rest is just a matter of debate over how that works out and how fast the club ditches previous shibboleths and goes with (again literally) the flow.

Call it what we want: cultural shift / rebranding / identity change - it's going to happen. To believe we stay the same is like King Canute trying to stop the tide coming in...to keep the analogy going!

Yeah, I guess it would be nice to have a new motif to put on some clothing, but if you are not concerned on the commercial aspect then what is the concern?

I really don't think what you are proposing can be called anything other than a merchandise range?

The cultural shift, not sure what this would look like off the pitch?

Rebranding, I think we have got to the point where we can stop using this word. Given that you basically said it was wrong in the first post.

Identity change, not sure we are going full in with this either. Would this be the badge, do you think we should change the badge to incorporate the river. Thinking about this, this would be the only thing really that would indicate a major shift towards the river, other than a merchandise range, which wouldn't necessarily change anything about the culture, brand or identity of the football club.

Dont get hung up on words. I did say in the OP that rebranding was a horrible term and was there for want of a better one that could convey the subject matter. 🤷‍♂️

There's nothing to be confused about here: I'm stating the bleedin' obvious really: we're not at Goodison anymore with its close knit terraced community and all the pubs and shops people are used to, which was part and parcel of the stadium and part of our identity to outsiders too (I refuse to call it by the Echo spawned name 'grand old lady <spits>), we're in a new home and the environment will be equally important to how we and others identify the club.

Nothing at all controversial in all that. The debate is over how that rolls out and what it could look like. The river will utterly dominate the way this club is seen. To believe it wont is to fly in the face of almost every single piece of club and fan produced media since the moment the dock was drained onward.

That's it really: it's not rocket science and you dont need a PhD in semiotics to fathom what the nature of this thread is all about.

(I refuse to call it by the Echo spawned name 'grand old lady <spits>),
In 1999, The Independent newspaper journalist David Conn unexpectedly coined the nickname "The Grand Old Lady" for the stadium when he wrote "Another potential suitor has apparently thought better of Everton, walking away on Tuesday from the sagging Grand Old Lady of English football, leaving her still in desperate need of a makeover.

So no Dave, it had nothing to do with The Echo.

I think the best form of "rebranding" would be to start winning trophies. Success often makes people sit up and want to know more about you. But if we're talking something based around our new location, then maybe slavery would be the way to go. Put a couple of semi-naked, chain-clad, black people on the badge. Now that would definitely get the club some widespread recognition and have people wanting to know more.

Did he bollocks. It was an Echo reporter. Mind you, same difference. They're all gob💩s.

It's embarrassing and no one from the past would ever have been calling it a grand old lady. FFS. The utter state of that as a description.

His 2009 article for The Guardian, detailing the bereaved Hillsborough families' continuing campaign for justice, prompted the then Labour ministers Andy Burnham and Maria Eagle to press for all official documents relating to the disaster to be released.

David Conn is not like the rest.

He didn't get that lot to shift on that. The Kopites did that at that remembrance event.

BTW, take a look at what he wrote about Paris. That'll cure you of your admiration for that chrome domed belter.

Seems to be a well thought out story with plenty of evidence presented.

'Failed in their duty'

The report published a list of recommendations for the Minister of the Interior, responsible for the general interior security of the country.

They included:

  • Make changes to the rules governing the use of tear gas at major
  • Adopt the tools needed to count in an accurate and detailed manner all the medium force weapons used by law enforcement officers
  • Issue instructions and orders systematically in foreign languages at major sporting and culture events, depending on the nationality of those attending.
They go on to say police "failed in their duty to protect people and property" during the event, and the Minister of the Interior, along with Prefect of Paris' Police and those responsible for security arrangements, did not take "all the necessary steps to supervise or oversee supervision of the actions of their officers".

And an independent enquiry seemed to agree with it.

Im sorry if that doesnt fit your anti-Liverpool stance.

CRS v Kopites?

Guess who gets my vote?

Agreed.

While our history is illustrious, with only four clubs to this day having won the league as many times as us, we should be exploiting the fact that our stadium is now on the River Mersey. 'Ferry Cross the Mersey' must be one of the most famous songs of all time.
But by them, forever aligned with the RS. We Shall Not be Moved as we will be standing by the waterside. Think we had claimed that one back in the day anyway.
