Dogs

Haven't read the whole thread yet so probably been said already...

Dogs have owners, cats have staff, and people generally are d**ks
We have a sign with that on it except for the last bit. :)

We have had cats over the years but our recent GSDs have been disastrous in terms of boisterous behaviour with kittens. Also lost a beautiful white cat some years ago to being knocked down. Another gorgeous cat from cancer.

With our current youngest GSD who just eats everything, including furniture, no way I would risk a kitten ATM. She is the most destructive dog I have ever owned, but I love her. Nearly 7 months old. Hopefully she calms down.

My other GSD is nearly 8 and is so serene and quiet.

Ah well.

The only time my daughter was bitten was by a bloody little Highland terrier. She was very young at the time. I have no time for yappy little farts of dogs.

Never had a Rottie but I believe they are great family dogs too.
The wife is a dog groomer.
She got a proper bite today off a Cocker Spaniel. They never usually do that, it’s the daschunds that are usually lairy.

Surprised at that. My daughter has a cocker. She is defensive in terms of barking at strangers - including me sometimes! When they stay with us, the dog is best pals with our GSD pup.

Funny enough the only time I was bitten was by an Irish Setter as a youngster. Completely unprovoked. I think I was about 8.. I refused to make any complaint as I knew the consequences would be for the dog to be put down. Just got my anti tetanus injection.

Later in life I had a gorgeous rescued Setter. We still have one of her pups, now aged nearly 14.

No aggression ever.

We’ve had Cockers in the family for years, hence the surprise.
My dads got two German short haired pointers who are very defensive with regards to strangers. If I stay there they kick off in the night if i get up for a piss ! Murder they are, but blinding dags.

When my daughter stays with us the Cocker sleeps in her room. If I get up to get a glass of water during the night the dog starts Barking and growling.

Amusing considering it's my house :)

I just love dogs probably with the exception of poodles, (childhood experience with neighbours), Highland Terriers ( lovely on an ashtray or whisky bottle, but very snappy in real life) and Jack Russells - two of those owned by neighbours have really been a PITA over the past 25 years. Can't excuse my GSD killing one - see earlier post - but they are the most annoying yappy little animals.

One neighbour now has two GSDs and is breeding them so I seem to have converted him. His daughter has two and there are another 8 within a mile of where I live. None here before I got my first in 2000.

No burglaries either :)

As posted earlier, our current GSD pup is a pure demolition derby on paws. She can't be left alone. Today she took down a 12 box of eggs from the kitchen counter and I have four left. I know .....I should have put them in the fridge.

She just eats anything she can find. She knocked over a full bucket of water in the garage where the dogs sleep earlier.

ATM she is fast asleep but I have never had a dog that is so destructive. Love her to bits though.

Our Bernadoodle is a big girl. Anything left on the worktop is fair game. Lost a couple of dinners by forgetting. My own fault after the first time. ?

Woodsy she is the first dog I have ever owned in nearly fifty years that can open doors by pulling the handles. Coco, our oldest was able to open windows mind.

Incredible the intelligence in these animals.

Quick story - our first GSD was when our daughter was just 2 and a half.

One day my wife was at the back of the house painting on a step ladder. Elsa the GSD kept coming into her and whining. My wife followed her to the front of the house to find our daughter had fallen off her little trike. Just brilliant family dogs.

That's incredible. Dogs certainly do have a protective instinct when children are involved. Most dogs anyway.

Love GSD's.

Miss mine daily, also.

Elsa was our first GSD and we absolutely loved her. She was so intelligent and loved our daughter and all her friends and cousins. I will never forget the absolute roaring in tears when my daughter came home from school to learn we had to have her put down. She had developed an incurable illness and was too old for surgery.

We have had two others that have passed on and we have two currently including demolition derby pup Heidi :)

When I look back, I realize how losing a pet really takes its toll. Nevertheless we always maintain a crew- three dogs ATM.

It takes its toll, alright. It's a bereavement, pure and simple.
