Are there any dog breeds that are suitable for working people living in a flat?

Sometimes I feel like I'd like to get a dog but I live in a 80 square metre flat and 2 days a week I have to go to the office so I'm gone for about 10 hours on those days. Also I like to go out and socialise 2-3 times a week.

Are there any dog breeds you can get for which it wouldn't be cruel to leave them alone for that long in a relatively small flat?

Speak to your local shelter.

They'll probably have some older/senior dogs who are just happy to sleep most of the time.

Thanks I'll look into that. I suppose dog sitters might be an option to look into also? Although I can imagine that would be expensive to do 2 days on a weekly basis
Sorry, forgot to add..... A maximum of 10 hrs alone for a couple of days a week won't be an big issue, particularly for an adult dog. (most will say 8 hrs is the max, but like expiry dates on food and recommended doses of medicine, it's always overly cautious lol)

Some breeds are better than others for alone time but it's not a hard and fast rule. Again, speak to your shelter they'll have a good idea of which dogs they have are calmer disposition /happy to just chill over constant stimulation.

Regular daycare would probably rack up pretty quick. Casual (but trusted) sitters could work. The ideal scenario would be finding someone local. In a similar situation to you and you have a daycare exchange deal with them. I wouldn't worry about it too much though, these things can just happen over time. You'll meet people out on walks etc. Just go and see what's what.

Best of luck ;)
