I'd love a collie but I worry I'd not be able to give one time and exercise / stimulation needed. I mean, all dogs need that, but some more than others. We decided to get a boarder collie. We did our research and settled on that breed, being as they are medium sized, and good family dogs.
Anyway, the one we end up getting grows up to be huge for a boarder collie. And he's full of energy. If I had the time and money, I'd of signed us both up to the local Flyball team, because his agility is top notch too.
So the dilemma was what to do with this huge(well, bigger then we had anticipated anyway), energetic dog with bad separation anxiety. He's a lovely dog, with a great temperament and wonderful personality, and it wasn't his fault he grew so big. And none of us wanted rid of him.
The solution was to get him a playmate. To be honest, there has been times when we've had a baby and two puppies terrorising the house, I've thought us mad. But none of us have regretted it, and it worked a treat in helping divert his energy.
Here is Chase, he's 3 now, but a nightmare to keep still long enough for a photo:View attachment 116512
And this is Isla. She's 1 and 1/2:

And to try and show you how big he is, here is the two of them together. I'd say Isla is probably medium, if slightly small for the breed:

TL/DR?

That dog is a bit of a charmer methinks. Eow helleow! This is Carl. @carlos21 kept asking me to get a Springer Spaniel. I submitted to the unrelenting power of Carlos.

I have to concur with @verreauxi. I don't think my two would ever get to a point were they have walked enough! They do love the garden though.Yeah, a border collie is the best gym membership you'll ever own. Before we had a fence (since fences are frickin' expensive) we would walk ours like 4x a day.
Heh, 6ft efforts I've had installed. Hopefully okay. One day maybe, got a cocker spaniel and he's enough for the minute. Think he'd proper get upset at sharing attention with another dog too.I have to concur with @verreauxi. I don't think my two would ever get to a point were they have walked enough! Just a word of caution, a big boarder collie is very capable of clearing a 4ft gate from standing
