Wilson is injured to much and would be way over priced, and I haven’t seen much of him tbh other than against us. I don’t make player judgements when they play against us seeing as bolasie looked like pele and mitrovic looked like van basten

He wasn't great on Saturday, can't argue with that, I stick up for him when he plays well and he was pretty poor against CP. I thought all the forwards were a bit poor to be honest. the defence and mid were actually quite good.

These are the games Dom needs to learn to change up a bit or we find a striker to compliment what DCL has with added goals.

Shearer and Wright on MotD said that DCL can learn to improve his movement and make better positions for himself and put defenders in two minds about where he'll be.
For me, the issue is can Ferguson actually teach him that when he himself was more of a battering ram type centre forward ?
In that case let’s get Shearer or Wright to spend some time coaching him.

If we had other wide options eg Lozano, to allow Richarlison to play up front would people rather have him or DCL as our striker?

Both have elements of their game to learn if they are to become a top level striker but I’m interested in people’s thoughts.

Personally dont even think hes better than DCL. My take is that he gets a lot of chances at wolves and scores more but the rest of his game isnt as good.

Lets see next season...

I dont think comparisons with leading goalscorers are too helpful

However im a bit lost on how a (just turned) 22 year old cant improve one single area of his game.

Yeah, agree. That’s what training is for, no?

That early chance he missed on Saturday where the ball bounced over the defender and he ran on to it. Set that up in training and get him to finish it 50 times. Then same again tomorrow. That’s what training drills are for - to drill technique in to muscle memory.

I was thinking the same. Get them and other goalscorers like Kevin Phillips in on short term deals to take some training sessions with him.

Rooney is one of the best goal scorers of the last decade though and he didn’t seem to learn much about finishing training with him every day last season.

He shouldn’t be doing anything other than finishing practice really.

No. Having richarlison as a striker is like having lukaku as one.... he doesn't pin defenders. Beaten to the ball too often, does t hold it up and we lose impetus a lot. He's a crackin finisher but all other areas no....

It stands up if his play is creating space for Richarlison and Sigurdsson to score game winning goals.Last time I checked it was a team game.

Yeah, so the argument is if he's scoring 15 goals approx, instead of the 25+ that Aguero etc score, but also contributing a lot to the team, it's great. Whichever way he goes -goalscorer or team striker - let's wait a year.

Finishing is what I said. Sure, he can be told how to lose a defender and become aware of space. But composure and execution are in you or not. You have to be ruthless and have ice in your veins to be a predator in the 18 yard box.

He doesn't have that.

If this is anything to go by I wouldn't say he learnt nothing from Rooney

I’m sure players have upper limits as to how much they can improve, but most aspects of the game can be improved by practice and repetition. Composure in front of goal, is about having confidence that you’ll put it away.

While I agree he doesn’t look like a ‘natural finisher’, if he could improve his goals from 6 (?) this season to 10 next season that doesn’t seem impossible.

None of which is to say we shouldn’t get another striker in the summer, as it’s #1 priority for me.
