Yeah, agree. That’s what training is for, no?

That early chance he missed on Saturday where the ball bounced over the defender and he ran on to it. Set that up in training and get him to finish it 50 times. Then same again tomorrow. That’s what training drills are for - to drill technique in to muscle memory.

He’s been in the first team squad for 3 seasons now, you don’t think they would notice how crap he is a shooting and tried that already? You think at training they make him run after other player and jump high for hours every day? Because that’s all he’s good at

And in those 3 seasons he’s improved.

Training and playing games makes players better, not exactly a hot take.

He’s improved his pace and jumping which comes from his legs , which are growing and is something that’s natural not coached. He has improved his hold up play but I would assume that he’s been practicing finishing in those 3 years too and he hasn’t improved at all

He was truly awful on Saturday. A big wake-up call for our management who may have been foolishly caught up in thinking he may be able to lead the line next season based on his efforts in 2019. He's not a goalscorer and he never will be up to the goalscoring standards we require. Great option from the bench, but never a starter unless he rapidly improves the most vital areas of the game for a striker.

Think his goals to games has improved. Will he ever become a 15-20 goal a year player? I’m not convinced. Just don’t buy the argument that the ability to improve stops at 22.

The ability to improve doesn’t stop until much later and players like Vardy have shown that , although they are the exception. But you must have the natural talent to improve on, he literally finishes like a CB.

He's only been here for 1.5 seasons...we have to totally discount the time under Koeman (where he also played a big role in the PL2 win, and was a regular in the U20s England) and also under Allardyce...enough said...This pre-season and this year has been the real start of his career with us, or better still, judge him when he's 23-24. Not everyone hits their form and quality at 19/20.

In his 3 years with us he’s got 1 in 11, 8 in 44, 8 in 34 (all comps).

I agree that he doesn’t seem to be a natural finisher, but he’s definitely getting better. Question mark is over what his upper limit will be, and whether that will be enough to be starting for us regularly next season(s).

The instinct what footballers are born with can’t be taught. Yes his physical aspects have, his jumping and back to play has come on leaps and bounds and credit to him.

But the important aspect, which we require, won’t. Look at people like Cahill, technically not gifted but he had the ability to read games and find pockets of space to get his goals. It’s not taught, it’s an instinct. The rest of his game was then refined. Same with CBs, the best CBs can read the game, the rest is refined over time. And a striker, that ability to slot is not something you can learn, they’ll have in their locker already. It’s a natural instinct

We don’t need some who can occupy defences of the top 6, because that’s all he does

Bore off Tel.... you'd think we spent £75m on him the way you are going on about him.

Worst case scenario he is a squad player and a valuable support striker and a very good one at that. If he develops in front of goal his potential value is high due to the other things he brings.

Time to let this go... go and get some fresh air or something. I'm sure Mr Brands will sell tosun and niasse and buy one of those super goalscoring all round supreme footballer workhorses for a few quid..... after all they are everywhere aren't they...

If he’s starting for us next season then we have zero chance of catching Man U and maybe Chelsea if they lose hazard and can’t sign players, come to think of it catching wolves probably won’t be on the cards unless the Europa effects them

He’s been a great signing in terms of value , and when have I said we should sign a supreme footballer? We couldn’t attract the sort of player you are accusing me of saying we should get. I said our striker needs to score if we are going to improve our league position , I would happily sacrifice some work rate for goals, it’s what we need. If you cant see that playing him is costing us points against stubborn teams like palace etc then I don’t know what you think the solution is.

So I agree instinct can’t be taught, but that’s true by definition. But think finishing and composure is not 100% down to instinct. Finishing is in part about technique, and composure is about confidence in your technique.

All that said, we still need a new striker in the summer.

You talk like you know whats going to happen with his development.... you don't. All we know is he has improved at a rate you don't often see which bodes well.

Get over it.... he's going nowhere. We will probably buy a striker in the summer so stop wetting your trousers, you may get some Italian Alice band wearing Johnny come lately to get all "youtubed" up over..... giving it cheeky finishes with 2unlimited playing in the background....

"Great tune... what is it? Come to Everton giovanni!!! COYB".....

All a bit No Deal this, Pedro.
