Happy to be proved wrong like but still early days

Matter of interest, and, to make sure you don't move the goalposts, at the start of the season, what would he have had to do to prove you wrong, and, would you accept that if he scores, say, 12 to 15 in the league this season, then that would have proved you wrong ?

Also, while vaulting seems to be back in fashion ...

can vault me or whatever on this but DCL will never in a million years score a hatrick against any half decent team.

has he ever scored a brace against any half decent team?

the lad isn't a goalscorer

Would you not agree that Newcastle, being a mid-table Premier League team, are half decent , so a brace is a good step in the right direction ?

All he has to do is carry on what he has done this month and score goals

If he keeps it up and gets 15 goals this season I'd say that's a very good return and a massive improvement

Yeah he’s having a great patch and I hope he keeps going but breaking out the vaults and gloating is still premature for me. Will take a bit more than this to get the taste of the last couple of years out of my mouth.

He’s a bit of a weird one. His all round game has come on a lot and he’s generally a good player. He doesn’t really look like scoring a lot, but he’s got 10 for the season now which is genuinely excellent. It’s not immediately obvious how, but he’s suddenly become a much more dangerous player.
Training, playing regularly and still learning plus his attitude and effort. These things don't just happen.

Instead of all these sniping remarks for his critics from long ago on this thread - now that it looks like he will make the grade for us - some have eaten a piece of this , and changed their views/opinions which they are entitled to do just put this in the oven , and have a slice of this HUMBLE PIE - end of -

No they don’t, but can you tell me what he’s doing now that he wasn’t a year ago? I doubt it. He doesn’t seem to be doing much different but now things are going for him. Hopefully that continues.

Can't argue with that.

To be honest, I don't expect this purple patch to continue, so, especially given how he bullies 85% of PL centre halves, I'd be happy with 12 to 15, which would be at least twice his return of last season.

I think now, most people would agree he's a PL striker on merit, and the question now is his ceiling above, or below top six, which is a very different question to what was being asked by a signigicant minority last season, who saw him as more Championship than Premier League.

The only thing I can put it down to is experience. Also you can't deny that coaches can improve players and It seems Dunc has invested a lot of time in him. You're right though, he could just be in a purple patch and we can only hope it continues.

well he hasn't really changed his game but since going 4-4-2 or having someone actually up top with him he looks loads better.

No exactly. I’m not knocking him at all, I’m just saying it’s weird. He doesn’t seem to have changed much but suddenly the goals are flowing. He’s not done any of the things I would have said he needed to do to become ‘a goal scorer’ and yet he has. I hope it carries on.
