He looked knackered once the 70 minute mark came. Must've been hard going for him. Richarlison, Bernard, Kean, Walcott, and Sigurdsson - all failed to support him.

Difficult to support a player when his second touch loses possession.

Let’s be honest here. Calvert Lewin is a fast player who is strong and good in the air. If you play him every minute of every game of the season he’ll get you an ok return on goals. He is not a top striker though, his touch is abysmal, he can’t link with other players, his finishing is atrocious when it’s anything other than from a yard out, and he has absolutely zero guile of craft.

The problem is Richarlison is exactly the same. They’re both in the same positions trying to get on the end of things but ultimately neither of them are ever going to consistently set the other one up. Newcastle away is probably the only goal I can think of when they’ve actually played as a partnership together (even then DCL mishit it in).

They’re just ok but I’d trade them in in a flash for players like Rashford Martial Moura Son Pulisic Willian etc. They’re not even the very top layer like Aguero Stering Hazard Salah etc.

If this kid was doing what he was doing for us at Norwich or Palace we wouldn’t want to touch him with a barge pole but because our fans can’t resist an underdog come good story we are prepared to indulge an average striker.

Teams we are supposed to be competing with have strikers like Vardy and Jimenez and we have a striker who probably wouldn’t make their bench starting for us every game.
