I agree, he has improved leaps and bounds since Carlo arrived. I always wondered why he was starting games when we had Silva & Koeman. I guess persistence pays off and he has made me eat my words. Absolute star.
I don't think persistence pays off, persistence from one side and a crap ton of work from the other side CAN pay off. If we played with Cuco Martina for 3 years he wasn't going to magically get better.

£1.5 million, time, a bit of luck, and patience. Et voila.

I say luck, because if we had purchased the first team ready forward many of us were howling for, he'd maybe not got the game time which has helped his development.

It's a lesson. We need to give other lads patience and support too. Braithwaite, Nkounko, and Gordon being others who spring to mind.

There was a point where Pickford launched up a free kick to the right wing. The ball travelled most of the length of the pitch. Whilst being challenged, whilst sprinting, DCL just immaculately chests it down into stride, keeps running, and shrugs off the challenge. Beautiful stuff.

If anyone feels like putting that clip up on here to share, I think it deserves more credit.
I saw that too and took notice. I'm looking forward to this teams development. Excited for the future.

It wasnt luck we didnt buy a forward.

Brands did it on purpose.

I wonder how it would have gone for him if Kean had come in and hit the ground running.

I'm going back as far as Koeman mate. I know he was using DCL as a winger, but if we'd signed Giroud arguably chances would have been fewer. Ditto if Allardyce had brought in someone better than Tosun. So many things could have denied him the game time he got.
I will admit to questioning what every single manager saw in him enough to continue picking him.

I liked the way he improved and he always had a good attitude, but he was very bad at times.

I never gave up on him, but I will admit to wondering what the hell at times.

NEVER saw being the player he is now, ever.

And what a player he is.

I remember my dad chatting to a Sheffield United fan who couldn't believe we would pay that much for him. Just goes to show why we should always leave it to the professionals I guess lol

He petrified them lot coming on yesterday. Their fans, more than anything. The Redmen lads absolutely crapping themselves about it ruined me.

He's got an aura about him now. He just dwarfed their centre-backs.
He's always had that in his locker tbh, remember him bullying Arsenal CB's a few years ago. But with the goals now aswell, must be horrible to play against.

Agree, always thought he had potential but didn't quite expect this. Good to be surprised!

Well that's the main thing. Beforehand, he was an annoyance to play against, but I don't think defenders were scared of him.

Now, he's got the goals to boot as you say, so it's a genuine fear factor.
