2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Who are these world class strikers who are gonna come to Everton and score 20 - 30 goals next season? They're just not out there, and the ones that are Haaland, mbappe just never happening.
I think the quality of players available now is quite poor compared to the last 20 years or so and strikers are the hardest to find.

If Everton are serious about competing, it's on Brands to go out and get someone who can push Calvert-Lewin for his place.

This doesn't change the fact that for what he cost, he's turned out to be great value. He's your archetypal big number nine, who'd be a talisman at any club where they love all that (here, West Ham, Newcastle, etc).

My guess is that the club has no intention of bringing in another senior striker with a view to really challenging him, but you never know.

Do goals in the cups we all want the club to win not count? If he’s slotting 20 for the season then I don’t care if he does nothing else. What else did Lineker do?
Lineker worked the ball, moved it past players and finished or finished a chance off a through ball. All those things DCL hasn't really shown he can do. He's been good this season and he's developed a lot, but running with the ball, beating defenders and finishing etc he just doesn't do.

He finishes chances from 8 - 10 yards or headers. The finishes that close in don't always require finesse.

The problem is, with a finite pot of money, is it the most pressing concern?

I think theres tough decisions to be made on Richarlison, Kean and DCL. I'd be worried getting a back up would just end up being another King though.

Well I'd disagree on that. He runs channels well. Wins headers. Holds the ball up well.

Kane is a better all round player, but DCL has been as good as the Kane of this season as a goal scorer.
Does he really run the channels . Because I can’t remember. And where is running to. Because it doesn’t seem to benefit the team from what I’m seeing. Like his hold up play. Is he just passing straight back? Or is he trying to turn him, spin him. Or pull of his man and drive forward.

He wins a lot of free kicks and gets us up tbe pitch well. Wins a lot of important defensive headers too.

It’s not just about goals though is it. It’s about creating chances for teammates. Pressing the opposition, he does seem a bit lazy at times.

Being able to actually dribble with the ball. Or bully defenders. It’s the whole package. Someone who others all that could score a similar number of goals than DCL, but could be a much bigger benefit to the team
