2020/21 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Simple really. He has to buck his ideas up. Get involved as he used to and work that much harder in the channels for James to find him. He is likely to miss out on the euros if this form continues. Lacks service in some games but not all games and when that happens he has to find that bit more guile in creating space needed for service. If the forwards do not work hard and drag players away then service will be limited. Works both ways. Our midfield also has to work that much harder to create space to receive from the back passing, sideways passing defenders. Back passes and sideway passes are usually forced due to lack of movement ahead.

I am not 100% convinced that DCL is good enough to wear the Everton No. 9 shirt. I do think his scoring record this season has earned him the chance to stake a claim to it. I will reserve my judgment on him until we get a midfield that can play forward passes. Having played in defence for the most of my footballing days my natural inclination, when a team plays sideways or backwards, is to blame the forwards for not running into spaces but when you look at the midfielders we have been forced to play I struggle to blame forwards.
Hopefully we bring in the third member of the midfield who can pass forward and can compliment Allan and Doucoure and let James have a completely free roll.

I like Dom but th 2nd half of the season he hasn't been good enough, he has a crap midfield fair enough but not sure he's justified some of the hype, myself included in this, needs more consistency.

Not been good enough second half of the season but I’ve seen plenty saying we need to upgrade, but never seen anyone actually put forward a viable option.. United have been trying to freeze a 35 year old Cavani after every game, Liverpool play Firmino. Kane is the best number 9 in the world atm and that’s it in the league. All well and good saying we need to upgrade but why would you want to risk a Haller, Joelinton, Tosun, Niasse etc when there isn’t any strikers in Europe who id rather have and will come to a team whose 8th ffs

Wish we’d actually back some of them when they go through a bit of a drought or poor form, it happens

Looks like the player he was before Carlo arrived. Squad player at best. We need a striker.
We need a striker to bolster the squad, not to replace DCL, sure he's going through a barren patch but that's as much down to our style of play and the few chances we're creating for him more than anything else, I'm happy he is still contributing and all the fickle moaners on here will once again disappear when his goals are back again.

To add to this, I would not be surprised if he's carrying a knock given he's been in and out of the team with nigglesof late. Which may influence his all round play. He's very reliant on physicality.

Plus, young players and form etc.

Why do people keep bemoaning his lack of work rate when the manager has told him - and subsequently told us loads of times - that he wants DCL to focus his effort between the goal posts. He's literally following instructions and when we create chances for him he'll start scoring goals.
No one is saying to revert back to old of going wide and dropping deep but I feel his work rate centrally has diminished. Every game he was able to give a torrid time to CBs and that seems to have waned. He also still needs wise movement away from CBs to gain the extra few yards. I am just saying he still has quite a bit of work to do on his game. If he cannot lose defenders he will not get the service apart from hopeful crosses and punts. Some games the opportunity of penalty box action does not come along as freely as other games so that sometimes makes him redundant as he has yet to get the out of the box skillset.

I have never really rated him and to be honest havent seen that much this season to change my mind. I dont think he is hungry enough( I suppose you could say that about many modern day players).
He just gives me the impression that losing doesnt hurt him that much.

True.

It's not a striker we need, it's more of an attacking midfielder/front 3 ala Mane for example to supply goals.

We've had seasons of our midfielders getting 3 goals maximum a season apart Siggy chipping in.

You've got Richy and DCL as strikers. I think...either hopefully Simms is seen as a ready to be that bit part striker. Or for some miraculous reason they feel like King is worth enough to keep reasonably cheap.

I don't think it's a main priority either, so someone willing to chip in works for me.
