Stop posting utter wham we have a 40 million striker on 6 goals .... I can't criticise him because he works as hard as DCL & our midfield is pants, since our great start......
No engine room in midfield no decent crosses = no goals for anyone in our side..... we have had a bad run to blame our leading scorer is just plain stupid imo....

Excuses , excuses

I mean, probably? He doesn't create for himself and we don't create much for him. The easier"answer" would be to get in players to create more but I don't think expansive is what Carlo wants.

But United definitely create more than us. Ruud is a good example tho, would Ruud have been good at Everton? Probably not because we, again, didn't create enough.
I think van Nistelrooy would have scored goals anywhere. His movement was top drawer, and there can't have been many more clinical finishers to have played the game (at least not in my lifetime).

People talk as though strikers just stand in the box and wait for perfect deliveries, completely ignoring the importance of being able to create space, time runs, pull defenders out of position, etc. I don't mind Calvert-Lewin at all, but stepping up a level isn't as easy as saying 'x amount of goals for Everton = x amount of goals for United,' as Lukaku found out.

I said in the Coutinho thread just then there is no guarantee what system Carlo wants to go with long term. If he wants a more creative system with players like James and Coutinho even putting in delicious through balls like against RS and Southampton then he may well want to give Richarlison the no9 role long term where DCL could well be moved on for big money to fund a squad rebuild that Carlo couldn't previously do last summer due to FFP.

At present DCL plays up top as our main strength is crosses/set pieces - who knows if that will change after the coming summers recruitment.

But that's my point, "X goals for League Champions United" wouldn't be the same as "X goals for 7th place Everton".

He was clinical AF but he still relied, heavily, on people getting him the ball. 2001-2006, who did we have that could even come close to what he got there? Arteta in 2006?

True ones though......
Actually Joey they are not. Whilst we have changed the shape of the team since earlier on in the season and yes, i agree it's possibly not suiting DCL at the moment that's the sort of thing that happens at lot's of clubs and the strikers don't all just stop scoring mate. We are actually still making chances (we made 9 in the game the other day) DCL has really only shown 2 brief purple patches of form so far (looks great when on it) but he's been invisible for half the season. He is going to have to adapt his game a bit on a long term basis if he wants to be a success and learn to take the ball over the top and improve one on ones, the team just can't be setup for crossing into him, simply he isn't good enough and it makes us extremely predictable. Also stop bringing Richarlison into every single post, 1) he isn't a striker like DCL and not our main goal getter and 2) the fact you keep doing it in every post shows how weak your argument is.

I don't think Richarlison has the link play or physical attributes to be a centre forward, but I know what you mean.

Ancelotti doesn't seem to be wedded to any particular style of football, so he could easily go a different route altogether if Calver-Lewin does go.

I reckon he stays, though.

So what your saying is unless we go out and spend pyar doe getting scholes, Beckham, Giggs etc that ruud van had at United we shouldn't expect anything from DCL?

Last season he was bambi on ice. Now hes worth 80million quid. Funny old game. For me he's got plenty of developing to, skies the limit for him. Don't think we will be letting him go anywhere.

I look at the movement Richarlison did for those goals against RS and Southampton and DCL just hasn't the same quality of movement / finishing.

Essentially we have two good young strikers who play to totally different strengths therefore whichever way Carlo decides to move im happy if either is moved on for huge money providing we give Carlo big big money to rebuild the squad.

He might not have hit 20+ in the league virtually every year, like he did at United, but the truly top strikers will always find a way to goal.

Although, realistically, he'd have probably had one great season at Everton and then left. The best players end up at the best teams for a reason.

I'd like to get back to seeing Richarlison high up on the left, attacking the space between centre- and right-back.

With Rodriguez clipping balls into that area, he could clean up.

The lack of a decent back up striker has probably not helped, he's played even when he's not on form. In a different team he'd be dropped to the bench for a game or 2, which usually triggers a bit of motivation for a young striker to go and work harder, or, provides them with a much needed rest when they've played nearly every game.
