Its only natural and obviously twitter.

If I was DCL though I would just keep quiet and get on with proving people wrong on the pitch - dont think its ever worked out well for a player or manager who starts taking a pop at the fans.

In the modern age of footballers being superstars earning silly money its easy to forget without the fans they are nothing as shown by these past 12 months of empty stadiums.

Last time I checked they are still playing, getting paid those sums and pretty much no different to if the crowd were in.

Let's have it right ; our lads didn't take a wage cut or refused to be paid with no crowd. They are as protected as anyone.

.....the regular critics seem to have gone quiet, no mention of Watkins for a while as well.

I wonder what they made of Kai Havertz last night, 4 goals in 25 games for Chelsea, that’s what £71m buys you. Not sure I’d been keen on a straight swap. ‘DCL isn’t good enough for Everton & would be of no interest to the top clubs’.

....by the way, I’m not knocking Havertz as he’s clearly a talented young player. I do think, however, he’s a good benchmark for comparison with DCL.

Oh they'll be back. A quiet game or a missed chance and they'll be back...

It's the game, of course.

Well that's the thing mate, it wasn't his present you were talking about, you were actually quite specific about what would become of him in the future, that Ancellotti would want nothing to do with him, that he would end up in the Championship, you said he was a joke, that you actually hated him etc. It was fairly constant stuff about a very young player of whom we really knew nothing at that time

Now you're telling us he should quietly keep his head down and ignore the online criticism, 90% of which you were responsible for. Lol at you

One thing I always said in fairness mate was it wasn't his fault he was thrust into the position of being our main striker - that was down to awful recruitment signing Toshun, Sandro and Niasse.

Ultimately he was a victim of circumstance - context is everything its easy to forget those frustrated comments where not from someone who was watching his side sit in 5th playing good football no it was from someone naively fed a dream by the new owners of top 6 challenges and Hollywood football whilst we ended up in the relegation spots under 2 consecutive managers fighting potential relegation and playing God awful football.

Ultimately DCL or whoever replaced Lukaku was going to have big shoes to fill - no different to the flack Moist got replacing Fergie or Rickie Lambert replacing Luis Suarez.

He's become a good CF however there is certainly history rewritten in terms of his performances in those opening 2 and a half seasons.

Moise Kean is a similiar player / victim of circumstance however doesn't get cut anywhere near the same slack. Now if he comes back to Everton next season and scores 15 goals will people pretend his strolling around / being subbed on and off in under 15 minutes never happened?

You do see how that's a bit barmy though, a player is crap until he's not??? No room for development, no acknowledgment on very obvious progression until they're putting up the numbers you deem acceptable?

DCL may have only started hitting the net consistently in the last 18 months, but even before then his touch, pace, physique, aerial presence and hold up play have been an asset since he first started getting played though the middle.

And if Kean does come back with a better attitude and willingness to be a part of the team next season then yes, I will forgive a young very talented striker for thinking he was too good for Everton's bench.

The problem is mate is circumstance - we couldn't afford to give DCL a few years to keep scoring 5 goals a season as Evertons no1 when we were in mid table looking over our shoulder at the relegation spots. With Kean its a different as DCL is now matured and we also now have potentially King whereas 2 seasons ago it was a wet behind the ears DCL or Toshun/Niasse who you may as well have you or me on the bench!

Ultimately I can only judge from what Im seeing on the pitch at the time which was DCL wasn't at that time good enough for Everton both in terms of output and just ability - I know you mention his aerial prescence etc but even then they were nowhere near the standard they are now - the only thing I couldn't fault him on was work rate which was great but ultimately that wasn't enough at that period of time.

I was happy signing Kean last summer but I always said ideally we needed a Giroud/Dzeko type coming in as well as it made no sense having 2 work in progresses in DCL/Kean without an experienced player to take the pressure away from them.

I just think with DCL people rewrite history whereas for example I've seen people who have always backed DCL slate Kean and call him crap when Keans younger than what DCL was 2 seasons ago!! But if Kean comes back next season and scores 15 goals I wont hold them to that opinion as they can only ultimately judge him on what they have seen in an Everton shirt to date.

ForeverBozo92 doesn't understand that criticizing players is perfectly fine however you completely wrote DCL off and never gave him a chance at all from the get go and is now trying to worm your way around it, Sadly FB92 isn't the only one quite a large group of our fans did this in general, That's what DCL means when he refers to Everton da's.

Haha like your post, but Watkins is a good player mate, you can't deny that.

Yeah but we kept patient with him, because he does have the centre forward tools, works hard, excellent in the air and extremely fast and did chip in with a few goals, now it's paying off. Think the only players who have scored more than him, have scored a ruck of penalties. What's not to like ? In a team that is not possession based, the manager admitted that and does not attack enough of really create enough.
